She studied communications and political science at Saint Anselm College, a school located in New Hampshire. Ms. Leavitt received a scholarship right from the start, because of her impressive athletic ability, especially in softball.
During her studies, Ms. Leavitt showed an early interest in American politics. She often wrote commentaries expressing her personal views on major issues and submitted them to the school's student newspaper.
Leavitt also founded Saint Anselm College’s first radio club. During her college years, Leavitt interned at the White House and several television stations, including the popular Fox News channel.
While interning at the White House, Leavitt worked in the Office of the President's Correspondence. After graduating from college, she joined the White House press office.
Leavitt served as assistant press secretary to Kayleigh McEnany, former White House spokeswoman, from 2020 to 2021. After Trump's first term ended in 2021, Leavitt continued to pursue a political career and made her mark as a communications officer.
When she officially takes up the position of White House spokeswoman, Ms. Leavitt will be the youngest person to ever hold the position in American political history.
