TPO - Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee has just issued an urgent document requesting to handle the issue of a series of abandoned schools in the area.
On the afternoon of February 12, the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee Office announced that it had issued an urgent document to deal with the issue of a series of abandoned satellite schools.
Many schools in Kon Tum are in a state of deserted, serious degradation. |
Specifically, the Standing Committee of Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee has assigned the Provincial People's Committee to preside over and coordinate with district and city Party Committees and relevant agencies and units to direct the review and development of plans for the appropriate use of abandoned satellite schools in the province to avoid waste. In case of deterioration, funding for repairs will be considered. After a specific report is available, the province will submit it to the March 2025 Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee Meeting for consideration and comments.
After a period of inactivity, many classrooms have deteriorated, causing waste. |
According to the Dak Glei District Department of Education and Training, there are about 50 schools that are no longer in use after the merger in the area. Currently, the department has reviewed and advised the District People's Committee to consider converting the functions of unused separate schools into community cultural activity centers or into kindergartens.
However, the conversion of functions faces many difficulties in legal procedures, many schools are degraded, not suitable for function and purpose of use.
A school was abandoned after the merger. |
According to the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province, the department has reported on the direction of the implementation of the arrangement and merger of satellite schools in the area. Specifically, the province has a total of 918 schools. As of the 2024-2025 school year, the total number of satellite schools in use in the province is 717 and 201 schools are not in use.
There are still many remote schools that are no longer used for teaching in villages and hamlets, but there is no plan for their use and handover to promote the invested facilities. Some remote schools have expired and are degraded but have not been dismantled. Some remote schools that are currently in use are not solidly built, lacking playgrounds, equipment, clean water and sanitation facilities, and fences.
Kon Tum province currently has about 918 schools, but only 717 are in use. |
Ms. Pham Thi Trung, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province, said that in the coming time, the department will continue to review the current status of the school network in conjunction with the local socio-economic development plan. On that basis, the department will have a plan to use and handle facilities for each specific remote location.
According to Ms. Trung, for out-of-date and degraded schools, they need to be dismantled to ensure safety and give priority to supplementing public land funds in residential areas. For schools that are still in their term and safe, there needs to be an effective use plan. At the same time, the Department of Education and Training will coordinate with the Department of Finance and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to continue guiding localities in managing and using public assets and land to effectively use facilities at out-of-date schools.
