Gia Lai Many trees with diameters from 12-65 cm in the forest area managed by the Bac Ia Grai Protective Forest Management Board were cut down.
On November 27, Mr. Dinh Ich Hiep, Head of Ia Grai District Forestry Department, said that through initial inspection, the authorities determined that the damaged production forest area was 0.7 hectares, belonging to sub-area 317 (Ia Grang commune, Ia Grai district).

Large, ancient trees such as the Chinese clematis, sesame, and cow's hoof... were cut down with axes and machetes, many trees had saw marks. All vines and bushes were cleared, many trees were completely burned to make way for fields.
"The responsibility lies with the forest owner for not taking early preventive measures, allowing deforestation to occur over a long period of time," said Mr. Hiep, adding that the unit is coordinating with the police to investigate.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai, the province has a natural area of over 1.5 million hectares, of which nearly 650,000 hectares are forest land. In the first six months of this year, deforestation in the area has increased with 132 cases, causing more than 20 hectares of forest to be destroyed and over 240 hectares of unforested trees to be burned...
