A lesson at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted
In the 2024-2025 school year, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling non-specialized grade 10 students in the two specialized high schools Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training is working with these two specialized high schools to calculate and balance the expansion of specialized classes in various subjects as well as increase the quota of existing specialized classes.
It is known that from the 2023-2024 school year onwards, with the enrollment quota for non-specialized grade 10, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted will enroll 180 students, while Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will enroll 80 students. However, in the 2024-2025 school year, following the regulations for specialized schools, the two specialized high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling non-specialized grade 10 students. Thus, with 270 quotas for non-specialized grade 10, this year the schools will make adjustments to the size of specialized classes so as not to limit the enrollment opportunities for grade 10 students from now on.
Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted increases enrollment quota
An official from the Department of Education and Training said that Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted is expected to organize 13 specialized classes, including 12 specialized classes like previous years: literature, math, computer science, English, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, Chinese, Japanese, French, and this year, it will open an additional specialized class for English-math-science.
In addition, based on the actual conditions of facilities, teaching staff, students' needs as well as the development orientation of specialized high schools, the 10th grade quota of Le Hong Phong Specialized High School has also been adjusted compared to previous years.
It is expected that the specialized classes will have stable quotas (35 students/class) such as: Literature (70 students), Math (105 students), English (105 students), Physics (70 students), Chemistry (70 students), Information Technology (35 students), French (35 students).
The quota for specialized classes expected to increase compared to last year includes: Biology (70 students, an increase of 35 students compared to the 2023-2024 school year) and specialized classes in history, geography, Japanese, and Chinese, each subject enrolling 35 students. This means that each specialized class will enroll about 15 more students than in previous years. The specialized English-math-science class will enroll 70 students for the first year held at this school.
International exchange activities of students of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted opens specialized history and geography classes
Similarly, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has also been organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to open specialized English-math-science classes following the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program with 70 targets.
In addition, in the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will open a 10th grade class specializing in history and geography. Each specialized class will enroll 35 students.
The opening of specialized history and geography classes at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted starting from the 2024-2025 school year is based on the school's ability to organize training in this subject, and is also in line with the circular regulating classes in specialized schools. In addition, the expansion of specialized classes in the context of specialized high schools stopping recruiting non-specialized 10th graders, diversifying specialized classes, creating more opportunities for capable students to develop in a suitable specialized environment.
Regarding the specialized 10th grade exam, the traditional specialized subjects will have their structure kept stable. Regarding the new specialized subjects of English-math-science, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the professional council is researching and calculating the amount of knowledge in English, math, and science (English) to make it suitable. In particular, the specialized English-math-science exam will reduce the content of English knowledge and supplement the knowledge of math and science in English compared to the specialized English exam.
Mr. Quoc added that because it is an entrance exam for specialized grade 10, the requirements will be more difficult than the integrated English exam used for candidates applying for integrated English grade 10 at high schools implementing this program.
Regarding the content of the English-math-science specialized class curriculum of the two specialized high schools, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will develop the teaching content to ensure the requirements of the specialized program, promote the capacity and training of key students for specialized high school students as well as ensure the study time according to the Project of Decision 5695/QD-UBND.
