US President Joe Biden called Donald Trump on November 6 to congratulate the former president on his victory in the 2024 US election.

Mr. Biden also spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris and "congratulated the Vice President on her historic campaign." On November 7 (US time), Mr. Biden "will address the nation to discuss the election results and the transition process," according to the White House.
Former US President Barack Obama also congratulated Mr. Trump on his victory in the 2024 US presidential election, noting the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.
US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump participate in the first presidential debate of the 2024 election at CNN studios in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) on June 27.
"Clearly this is not the outcome we wanted. But living in a democracy means recognizing that our views will not always prevail, and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power," Obama stressed in a statement, according to AFP.
Obama's comments stand in stark contrast to Trump's refusal to concede defeat to Biden in the 2020 US presidential election, which culminated in a violent attack by Trump supporters on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
Former President Obama also expressed pride in the efforts of Vice President Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, calling them "two extraordinary public servants who ran a remarkable campaign."
