Hoang Anh Gia Lai recruited Washington Brandao, a striker who played for the mountain town team in the 2021-2023 period.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club announced the signing of a contract with Washington Brandao this morning, January 21. The striker born in 1990 played for the mountain town team for 3 seasons from 2021 to 2023, playing 53 matches in the V.League and only scoring 7 goals.
HAGL informed on the team's official social media channel: "After 2 years of leaving the team, Brandao is excited to return to serve the club. All HAGL members are also very happy to welcome Brandao."
“When we heard the news of Brandao’s return, 100% of the coaches and players supported him. I hope Brandao will soon integrate into the team’s playing style and help the team perform well in the future ,” said HAGL Club Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh.
After leaving HAGL at the end of 2023, Brandao played for Abahani Dhaka in Bangladesh. The Brazilian striker played 14 matches and scored 4 goals before leaving the club. He returned to Southeast Asia, playing for Kelantan Darul Naim in the Malaysian national championship. After the first 7 matches of the season, the 34-year-old striker only had 1 goal.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai is currently ranked 8th in the V.League 2024-2025 rankings. The mountain town team has only won 13 points after 3 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses, scoring 12 goals and conceding 11.
In the early stages of the season, HAGL registered 3 foreign players: Jeferson Elias, Marciel and Jairo Rodrigues. Jeferson played 7 matches without scoring any goals. This player just left HAGL to move to Chanthaburi in the Thai 2nd division. Midfielder Marciel Silva contributed 2 goals and just had his contract extended.
The contribution of foreign players in HAGL's attack front is not effective. The player who scored the most goals for the mountain town team up to now is Chau Ngoc Quang with 4 goals.
HAGL was banned from transferring players by FIFA not long ago. The reason is that the mountain town team did not pay the $29,000 fine imposed by the organization to former player Martin Dzilah. The mountain town team has just settled the dispute with Dzilah to have FIFA lift the ban.
