On the afternoon of September 30, at the National Convention Center, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) coordinated with the Hanoi People's Committee to organize the event "Techconnect and Innovation VietNam 2024" with the theme "Promoting innovation - Driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development".
Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024 is organized on a national scale, including many in-depth activities on technology and innovation.
This is also a forum for discussion and exchange to perfect and effectively implement solutions and policies to connect supply and demand, transfer and develop technology.
According to Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, Vietnam has made great strides in international rankings.
According to the 2024 Global Innovation Index (GII) Report of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam is currently ranked 44/133 countries, maintaining its leading position in the group of lower-middle-income countries. Over the past 10 years, our ranking has increased by more than 30 places, a clear demonstration of Vietnam's determination to promote science, technology and innovation.
The Minister of Science and Technology emphasized that science, technology and innovation have been playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country.
This is not only the main driving force to improve productivity and sustainable growth, but also creates new business models, enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises and countries in the international arena.
In that context, the Vietnam Technology and Innovation Connection 2024 event is one of the oriented activities of the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote the application, transfer of technology and innovation for industries, organizations and enterprises.
Sharing experience from the perspective of the locality leading the country in the Innovation Index, Mr. Le Hong Son - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee said that Hanoi currently concentrates more than 70% of science and technology organizations, universities, research institutes and 82% of laboratories nationwide, including 14 national key laboratories.
This is where more than 65% of the country's leading scientists live and work. This is also a particularly important advantage for the capital to focus on investing in science and technology development and innovation.
However, Hanoi also faces difficulties in the process of developing science, technology and innovation such as the lack of specific and breakthrough mechanisms for science and technology development, and incomplete high-tech infrastructure. A typical example is the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park with difficulties and challenges in terms of technical infrastructure, capital and investment attraction mechanisms.
In that context, Hanoi has implemented many synchronous solutions, in which the completion of the legal framework, mechanisms and policies on science, technology and innovation is prioritized. The focus is on building breakthrough and specific mechanisms to make science, technology and innovation truly become the driving force for the socio-economic development of the capital.
According to Mr. Le Hong Son, the Law on the Capital (amended) recently passed by the National Assembly will contribute to removing bottlenecks and obstacles in the development of science, technology and innovation in the Capital.
One of the important new points of the Law is the controlled testing mechanism (sandbox) in a number of areas, especially new technologies. This will help Hanoi quickly access technological advances, while creating motivation for innovative startups.
