At a meeting to provide information on socio -economic issues in the area organized by the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of April 17, Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, informed about the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025.

Accordingly, the Grand Ceremony will take place from May 6-8 at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy (Le Minh Xuan campus, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City). This is the fourth time Vietnam has hosted this important event and the first time it has been held in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, with the theme “Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity: Buddhist Wisdom for World Peace and Sustainable Development,” the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak will feature many unique cultural, spiritual and academic activities.

The event is expected to have the participation of more than 1,200 international delegates from 85 countries and territories and more than 1,500 domestic delegates, attracting 50,000-100,000 attendees.

Cultural exchange activities and sideline activities of the Great Festival will take place early from May 2, including festivals, responding to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day...

The event is expected to be an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam as a peaceful, friendly and united country, while affirming the Party and State's policy of respecting freedom of belief and religion.

In particular, this is an opportunity to introduce Ho Chi Minh City - a dynamic, creative and integrated urban area to international friends after 50 years of liberation.

The grand memorial service to pay tribute to heroic martyrs on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and throughout the nation's historical periods will be held on the afternoon of May 6 in the campus of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, combined with a flower lantern festival.

This is a special ceremony, expressing gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives, and at the same time introducing to international friends the traditional spiritual culture of the Vietnamese people and the cultural rituals of Vietnamese Buddhism.

To prepare for the Great Festival, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha mobilized thousands of volunteers, monks, nuns, and Buddhists to participate in supporting activities. The culinary logistics alone will have about 1,200 people, mainly Buddhists with experience in vegetarian cuisine at pagodas and some volunteers with professional skills in the culinary field to serve the Great Festival most thoughtfully.

Venerable Thich Duc Thien stated that, to date, preparations for the Great Ceremony have been basically completed. By April 16, the main hall of the Great Ceremony with a capacity of 2,700 seats was basically completed.

The Organizing Committee set up an additional hall with a capacity of about 1,000 seats so that Buddhists could watch the event live on screen, ensuring a solemn and safe atmosphere.

The prefabricated houses have been built and completed on schedule and handed over to specialized units to install technical equipment. These are areas serving food for delegates, a press center, a security center, a medical center and cultural event organization./.
