(HNMO) - The Hanoi Red Cross Society plans to activate sun shelters in 8 districts: Cau Giay, Ba Dinh, Bac Tu Liem, Hai Ba Trung, Hoang Mai, Nam Tu Liem, Long Bien, Thanh Xuan in the summer of 2023.
On May 24, a large number of staff, members and volunteers of the Hanoi Red Cross Society participated in training on skills to support the community in preventing and combating heat waves. This is an important step in the implementation of the project "Financial support based on heat wave forecasts" funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Hanoi in 2023.
Vice President of the Hanoi Red Cross Society Nguyen Xuan Hien said that the project “Financial support based on heat forecasts” was implemented with the basic content of establishing fixed or mobile shelters to avoid the sun. The shelters are located in areas with many workers doing freelance jobs, often having to travel under the harsh summer sun; at the same time, ensuring convenience for people to stop and rest.
In addition, the Red Cross at all levels conducted visits and organized communication activities about the harmful effects and ways to prevent heat, helping workers in difficult circumstances reduce the risk of health risks caused by heat.
From support resources and knowledge and skills equipped for staff, members and volunteers, the Hanoi Red Cross Society plans to activate sun shelters in 8 districts: Cau Giay, Ba Dinh, Bac Tu Liem, Hai Ba Trung, Hoang Mai, Nam Tu Liem, Long Bien, Thanh Xuan this summer.
