As part of the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, U Minh district built 1,019 houses for meritorious people, poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minority households, with a total cost of 53 billion 910 million VND, including 778 new houses and 241 repaired houses. To complete the construction of a large number of houses in a short time, the district focused on many drastic solutions.
A new house was completed and handed over to a poor household for use.
Mr. Doan Viet Khoa, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the District People's Council, said: "U Minh is a district with a large number of households supported by the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, over 1,000 houses. Therefore, in the past time, identifying the profound humanistic significance of this program, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee as well as the District Steering Committee have resolutely implemented it according to the direction of the province. The agencies, departments and branches of the district have implemented the program with very important initial results. Up to this point, the district has built nearly 70% of the houses, of which more than 50% have been handed over and put into use."
The households that were considered for housing this time were mostly in difficult circumstances, previously living in temporary, dilapidated houses but had no money to repair or rebuild. When receiving support, the people were very excited about the attention of the Party and the State. The new house was the motivation to help them rise up and escape poverty.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Hien, Hamlet 5, Khanh Lam Commune, shared: "Before, my house was dilapidated and leaked. My husband built a lake, the family had no land, and my father-in-law gave us a plot of land to build this house. The local authorities considered supporting us with money, and thanks to the brothers who lent us money, we were able to build a spacious house. My husband and I were very happy."
Each house was supported with 60 million VND and an additional 5 million VND to build a hygienic toilet. During the implementation process, some households borrowed money from relatives and family to contribute more to build a spacious house, ensuring long-term use.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Head of Hamlet 5, Khanh Lam Commune, said: "Through the mobilization, some households contributed capital and labor to build more spacious houses. In the hamlet, 10 houses have been completed, and the households are very excited. The remaining households are also facing difficulties and want to build houses, but are currently stuck because they do not have land, as they are currently living on the quayside."
Vice Chairman of the District People's Council Pham Thanh Phuong (right) directly surveyed, grasped the situation, and sought solutions to difficulties in implementing house construction.
In the process of implementing the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the locality is facing many difficulties, especially for households that are considered to build houses but do not have land; there are still many cases that have to change the subjects; the transportation of materials of some households in the forest area is facing many difficulties, so the progress is still slow. However, with the highest determination, the district is finding ways to overcome the difficulties and striving to complete the set goals.
Mr. Doan Viet Khoa informed: "In the coming time, the District Steering Committee will continue to direct more drastically to achieve the goal of finishing in June as directed by the Provincial Party Secretary. Along with eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, we are studying and proposing to competent authorities to consider conditions and plans to support people's lives and livelihoods, so that after completing this program, people will have the conditions and motivation to rise up from poverty and stabilize their lives"./.
