According to Neowin , although Valve's CS: GO is a free-to-play game, gamers can buy different skins for their characters in the game. The skin market has always been an attractive factor that contributes to the success of games, and rare skins are even more popular with gamers, willing to spend thousands of dollars and even hundreds of thousands of dollars like a recent CS: GO gamer.
Most expensive item in video game history?
In a Twitter post, zipL, a CS:GO skin trader, said he brokered a deal between seller “Luksusbums” and an unnamed Chinese buyer in April. The sale involved two items: one was an in-game Blue Gem Karambit knife skin that sold for $100,000, while the other was a StatTrak Tier 1 Case Hardened AK-47 with a Blue Gem pattern and four Titan Holo Katowice 2014 skins glued onto it, which went for over $400,000. The total transaction for both items was over $500,000, completed on April 16.
CS: GO has seen a huge surge in new players online over the past few weeks. This is largely due to Valve announcing that Counter-Strike 2 is coming later this summer as a free upgrade to CS: GO. Since all CS: GO weapon skins will be ported over to Counter-Strike 2, this makes some in-game items more valuable.
However, the report notes that the CS:GO item market is currently in a speculative phase, so gamers should be careful not to spend money inappropriately. In particular, the price of the CS:GO AK-47 skin that zipL mentioned is also not confirmed.
