Preserve and spread traditional values

Having been involved in the Youth Union for more than 8 years, Lam Phi Hung has not chosen great things to leave his mark, but has quietly nurtured the movement from familiar things such as organizing traditional dance classes, reenacting folk festivals, preserving costumes, musical instruments, Khmer cuisine, etc. Each program and activity he participates in or organizes contains profound cultural values, carrying within it the breath of the origin. “I always consider the Youth Union not only a place to train young people but also a bridge to preserve and spread the national cultural identity. Being able to contribute to organizing activities to honor the traditional beauty of the Khmer, Stieng and other ethnic minorities is the greatest pride in my work. I believe that when doing youth work, first of all, we must make young people see their own value, from there they will love, attach to and preserve the national cultural origin,” Hung shared.

Mr. Lam Phi Hung always organizes programs that are closest to the Khmer people such as opening traditional dance classes, reenacting folk festivals, preserving costumes, musical instruments, Khmer cuisine...

For Mr. Hung, preserving culture is not only the responsibility of a union member but also a way to spread pride and ignite the spirit of national solidarity. And he has "spread" his enthusiasm through specific programs organized by the commune union such as folk dance classes, cultural competitions, sports, and tourism for ethnic minorities... The most special thing in Mr. Hung's journey as a union member is not the number of programs he has organized, but that Khmer culture has been "revived" in the hearts of local Khmer union members. From being shy and unfamiliar with their own ethnic culture, many young Khmer people have gradually loved, been proud of, and become more responsible for their ethnic culture.

For young people, love of culture is no longer just in books or festivals, but has become a part of the journey of growing up and maturing. Lam Thi Tien, a young member of the Youth Union in Cha La Hamlet, Loc Thinh Commune, shared: “I feel very proud to participate in Youth Union activities. Through that, I have learned more about the traditions of my people. The more I participate, the more I realize that preserving culture is not only a responsibility but also a way to assert myself in modern society.”

The "glue" that binds youth together

No youth movement can be truly sustainable without people who are passionate, dedicated and understand the core values of national culture. And in Loc Ninh, the image of Mr. Lam Phi Hung has become a catalyst to spread the spirit of loving culture and preserving national identity to every branch, village, and hamlet in remote areas. From dances that seemed to have disappeared to forgotten music, Mr. Hung and the young people have restored and inspired them again. Khmer culture is therefore not only preserved but also brought to life in everyday life, in every grassroots union activity.

Thach Thi Mai Trinh, a student of class 12A1 , Loc Ninh District Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center, shared: “Before, I only knew about Khmer culture through festivals or books, but thanks to participating in the Youth Union and being guided by Mr. Hung, I have come to understand and feel the beauty of my ethnic culture. The more I learn, the more proud I am because I realize that I carry in my heart a very special part of culture.”

Mr. Lam Phi Hung is not only a dedicated union officer but also a person who knows how to appreciate and promote the national cultural identity in a lively and creative way. From folk dances to the spiritual values of the Khmer people, he has turned national culture into the "glue" that connects young people, especially ethnic minority youth, creating a positive influence in the union work in the locality.

In the era of the 4.0 revolution that is taking place strongly like today, many traditional cultural values are at risk of being dissolved and forgotten. However, people like Mr. Hung have been proactively preserving, actively spreading and being creative in conveying culture to the younger generation. Not only "preserving the soul", Mr. Lam Phi Hung also "sows seeds" - seeds of pride, seeds of knowledge and responsibility for national culture.

From the story of Mr. Lam Phi Hung, we can see that each member today is not only a guide for the youth but also a bridge connecting tradition with the future. And in that journey, members like Mr. Hung are still persistently writing the beautiful story of today's young generation: living with ideals, loving their roots and always keeping the flame of tradition in their hearts.
