This is a very meaningful event, marking four decades of honoring and celebrating the great contributions of Vietnamese female scientists. This is not only an opportunity to look back on the long journey of the award, but also an opportunity to connect, exchange and share among generations of female scientists, inspiring young intellectuals to continue on the path of science.
Named after the eminent 19th-century female mathematician Sofia Vasilyevna Kovalevska, the Kovalevskaia Prize has been awarded in Vietnam since 1985, becoming the first international award dedicated to female scientists, recognizing the outstanding contributions of women in research and application of science and technology, especially in natural sciences - a key field of the knowledge economy.
Over the past 40 years, the award has honored 22 groups and 57 outstanding female scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture, medicine, information technology...
The female scientists who have been awarded not only have made important contributions to the country's science but have also become a strong source of inspiration, motivating many generations of female intellectuals to embark on the path of science - a glorious but also challenging journey. The examples of outstanding scientists who have received awards over the years and the journey they have strived for have shown us bright, emotional and meaningful colors, expressing the beauty of the intelligence, soul and courage of Vietnamese women in general, and of female scientists in particular.
In addition, the Award Fund has also paid attention to awarding scholarships to 12 female students (each student receives for 3 years) to encourage female students in the natural sciences, giving them more motivation to continue their path of scientific research, achieving success in their studies and work.
President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that after 40 years of operation, the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award has increasingly affirmed its effectiveness and prestige, receiving attention, support and facilitation from leaders of the Party, State, and all levels and sectors. Not only stopping at the results of honoring 22 collectives and 57 individuals, the Award has had a widespread impact, encouraging women to participate in scientific research, thereby implementing the Party and State's policies on science and technology, actively contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
For the Vietnam Women's Union, the Award's activities have become an annual activity with very practical results, thereby enhancing the role of the Union, attracting the participation of Vietnamese female intellectuals in emulation movements and the Union's tasks.
President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen affirmed that, implementing the policies of the Party and State, especially Resolution No. 57 dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, the Vietnam Women's Union is well aware of its role and responsibility in researching and advising on policies to support improving the quality of female human resources, especially female intellectuals in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
In the coming time, the Association will focus on promoting research and proposing to the Party and State practical and effective policies and strategies, contributing to building a favorable environment to improve both the quantity and quality of female intellectuals, encouraging women to participate in highly applicable research, technological innovation and digital transformation, meeting the development requirements of the knowledge economy.
At the same time, continue to coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to research and propose expanding awards for female scientists in various fields, opening up many opportunities for Vietnamese female intellectuals to continue to contribute and affirm their position in the development of science and technology in the country.
