Bad behavior, anger, disagreement, joking, and disrespect for teachers have lowered the image of the students as students; lost the image of themselves - a true learner, causing great consequences to the image of the classroom, school and family.

Is this a consequence of "student-centered" education?

Is this a consequence of our calling and education moving in a student-centered direction, as many people believe?

Student-centered learning is a progressive teaching method that adheres to the principle of targeting and individualizing students in orienting education to suit their interests, personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. In which, teachers play the role of guides and directors, and students decide/choose content and form based on the support of teachers.

Here, we do not advocate for easy, free, irregular, careless or perfunctory education. In addition, a successful education does not mean that there are no failures and vice versa. Therefore, the view that this is a failure of education is not satisfactory.

Agree that the group of children make mistakes, are insolent, stubborn and act recklessly, but the school, family or society do not refuse to educate them, still make efforts with the direction of improving their behavior to become healthier, have more correct awareness and become more useful people. School education is not a "tailor-made" story to "magically" transform a learner into an adult "just like" the desired mold of society.

The point to be drawn here is, where has the child's education process gone wrong up to this point? Has the family paid attention and recognized the child's "bad" nature or poor ability to control emotions? How has the school been resolute and strict in rewarding and punishing students? Is it a release or a build-up of inhibition and stress? Has the teacher made a mistake but admitted his mistake and corrected himself in a good-willed manner? The fact that an emotional outburst in one person can be easily explained, but when a whole group of students compromises with wrong and ugly things, it is necessary to look back at the past education process and the coordination between educational forces: family, school, and society.

For parents, in your opinion, what actions are needed to educate their children?

After the incident, parents need to be quick and decisive in correcting the behavior and attitude of their children, students who are at the age of eating, growing up, stubborn and difficult to manage. Any indulgence will leave unpredictable consequences for the perfection and development of children's personality.

Things parents can do to educate their children

  • Sit down and listen carefully to everything your child has to say about the incident.
  • Analyze and confirm your child's bad, wrong and deviant words, attitudes and behaviors. At the same time, show your child clearly the consequences that have happened, are happening and will happen to him/her, to the teacher, to the people involved, especially to public opinion.
  • Resolutely cooperate with schools and educational agencies to correct mistakes.
  • Give or discuss with your child upcoming directions and behavioral solutions for your child to refer to and implement, with observation and evaluation.
  • Encourage your child to take responsibility for what he has done and at the same time observe and provide psychological support when needed. Even though your child is wrong, he needs to be given the opportunity to change for the better.
  • Limit ridicule, humiliation, violence or emotional, subjective punishment of children... to avoid putting unnecessary psychological pressure on children.
