Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang advised students to actively use English in studying and researching, so that the Polytechnic environment is truly of international standard.
At the opening ceremony of the new school year on September 10, in front of 8,000 people, Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, gave three pieces of advice to new students.
According to Mr. Thang, Hanoi University of Science and Technology pays special attention to the use of English. This year, new students must undergo an international standard English proficiency test, through the TOEIC Placement test. From there, teachers will give advice to help students learn and use English best in their studies, research and innovation.
Mr. Thang believes that students need, are required and must proactively use English in studying, researching, doing major assignments and graduation projects.
"I believe that students will master and use English effectively. This is the premise for the school to internationalize faster and for the Hanoi University of Science and Technology environment to truly be of international standard," said Mr. Thang.

In addition, the head of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that students need to identify their personal abilities, qualities, and strengths to choose a suitable development path.
According to him, university education has many differences, requiring students to be mature, to choose the knowledge they need to learn and explore. They also need to balance and allocate time for studying, entertainment, and sports training in a reasonable way.
Normally, when entering university, each student needs to choose the path to take after graduation: work, graduate school, start a business - run their own business.
Mr. Thang hopes that new Polytechnic students will think early, maturely and choose a path that suits their aspirations, family circumstances and personal abilities so that they can step out into the world with the mindset of global citizens.

The director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology also advised students to always nurture love and compassion, live kindly and work effectively. "Compassion is the fulcrum for each of us to overcome challenges and difficulties," said Mr. Thang.
Since last year, the Polytechnic University has established rules for communication culture in the school and online environment. After one year of implementation, the communication culture has clearly changed in a positive direction.
"Please open your hearts and share your difficulties and joys. Your success will come from the smallest things. Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be a miniature society where you can learn both life skills and work skills," Mr. Thang shared.
Nguyen Tuan Phong, a new student majoring in Control and Automation Engineering, was impressed with the advice from the school's head. "It was all practical advice, helping us know what we need to do right from our first year," Phong said.
This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology welcomed more than 8,000 new students from 52 provinces and cities, the farthest being Bac Lieu; along with 94 international students from 10 countries. 22% of the new students are female.
Mr. Thang emphasized the spirit of the new school year at Hanoi University of Science and Technology is "to devote oneself, transform more strongly, innovate more effectively, transform digitally more drastically and accelerate green transformation".
Established in 1956, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the top university in the country in training in the field of engineering. The school has 65 majors at the undergraduate level, 47 majors at the graduate level, and 32 majors at the doctoral level.
