As one of the typical recipients of this 14th award, welding technician Nguyen Thanh Phong of An Lac Automobile Mechanical Enterprise, Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation - One Member Limited Liability Company (SAMCO) stands out because this is the fourth time he has been honored with this noble award.

The Nguyen Van Troi Award and the National Young Worker Award motivate me to try harder, to demand more of myself to do my best work and contribute effectively to the unit.

NGUYEN THANH PHONG

Profit from every initiative

Phong graduated from the automobile technology department of Cao Thang Technical College and applied to An Lac Automobile Mechanical Enterprise because he saw the factory right in his hometown of Cu Chi. Working at the body welding section of the factory, Phong repeatedly proposed ways to make the work go more smoothly and was recognized for his initiatives many times at the unit.

Most recently, his proposal to manufacture a fixture for processing KGV8 truck plates in practice helps workers work faster and produce more beautiful products. Phong fabricated an L-shaped fixture placed on a knife table, with a pre-welded edge for processing the plate. Along with some technical details, this solution helps reduce labor time while increasing productivity and product quality.

Also from practical work, he continued to propose the design of a jig for processing multi-size mango hole punching molds. He and his colleagues studied the method of processing a set of molds with four sets of mortars and pestles for punching mango holes with different commonly used sizes at the factory. These mortars and pestles can be replaced quickly without removing the mold from the stamping machine, thus reducing the mold replacement time while still ensuring work efficiency.

"I always think about whether there is a better way to do things, so I often give suggestions to the technical department. The goal is to ensure quality, aesthetics, and doing something more beneficial for the unit, which is also bringing benefits to our workers," said Mr. Phong.

Children's playground from leftover materials

Up to now, Phong and his colleagues have donated 13 playgrounds to children in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City and several provinces through the Pink Vacation volunteer campaign. The playground model from leftover materials suggested by Phong was agreed upon by the grassroots Youth Union Executive Committee.

Phong said that after constructing and installing the bus and coach body, there were many metal pieces, wheel covers, paint, each of which had a little bit left, and if not recycled, these materials would just be worthless scrap. Why not take advantage of them and weld, design, and paint them into seesaws, swings, and bouncy animals and bring them to remote areas to be installed as playgrounds for children. Thinking so, he and his colleagues started doing it.

One, two, and so on, this model multiplied and now has 13 models given to children in many places. This model has just been awarded the Ho Hao Hon prize by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union in 2014. He personally spent many days off to participate in the Pink Holiday campaign with his colleagues to visit people in remote areas to do youth projects, give gifts and scholarships to disadvantaged children.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Nguyen - Secretary of SAMCO Youth Union - said that as a direct production worker and also a Youth Union officer, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong was recognized as one of the typical examples of the "4 best" emulation movement, initiative and creativity of the unit.

"Personally, he has won many awards at all levels for workers such as National Excellent Young Worker, four times honored with the Nguyen Van Troi Award, the SAMCO Outstanding Young Face Award... contributing to inspiring work and creativity for other young colleagues" - Mr. Nguyen said.

Commendation of typical examples with outstanding initiatives

The Nguyen Van Troi Award is an initiative of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, honoring typical young workers in production, services, science and technology... with many outstanding criteria, in which the most typical are initiatives from practical work that bring high efficiency in work, benefiting the unit.

Established in 2008, the award has been presented 14 times to date, honoring 423 outstanding individuals. Many of them have become "innovative trees" in their units, some have received this award 3-4 times in a row, and many of them have won the National Excellent Young Worker Award.
