The demand for travel during the upcoming April 30 - May 1 holidays is increasing, causing airfare prices to skyrocket every day.

Survey of airline ticket prices

The most expensive tickets are still flights from Hanoi to Phu Quoc, with an average of 4.5 - 5.4 million VND/round-trip ticket. Even the outbound flight on Vietnam Airlines is showing business class tickets at up to 13 million VND, more expensive than the peak period of Lunar New Year 2024 when tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi cost over 10 million VND/trip.

According to a survey, round-trip airfares from Hanoi to Phu Quoc departing on April 28 and returning on May 3 range from 5 million to over 7 million VND/ticket. This price is 2.5 million VND/ticket higher than the current price.

Specifically, Vietnam Airlines ticket price is 7.6 million VND (including taxes and fees), Vietjet Air is 5.5 million VND, Vietravel Airlines is 6.6 million VND.

The Hanoi - Quy Nhon route is one of the routes with the highest increase among the main tourist routes. The round-trip airfare surveyed for the period of April 27 - April 30, one month before, was 5 million VND.

For the Hanoi - Da Nang route from April 27 to 30, the best price found on March 23 was 4.7 million VND round trip, 1.6 times higher than a week later.

For the Hanoi - Da Lat route on April 27, VietJet Air offers flights with prices ranging from 2.7 - 3.9 million VND/round trip ticket while Vietnam Airlines is 3.8 - 13.07 million VND/ticket.

Meanwhile, for the Hanoi - Nha Trang flight departing on April 28 and returning on May 3, the best price found on the morning of March 23 was 3.9 million VND/round-trip ticket and the highest was 7.7 million VND, 1.2 - 1.5 million VND higher than the current time.

Ticket prices for flights departing from Ho Chi Minh City during the period of April 30 - May 3 are also not affordable. According to a survey, the lowest round-trip ticket price for the Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc route of Vietravel Airlines is 3 million VND; Vietjet Air is 3.3 million VND; Vietnam Airlines is 3.9 million VND.

The flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang during this holiday is considered to have the cheapest ticket price compared to other flights, ranging from 2.7 - 3.2 million VND/round trip ticket.

Specifically, a round-trip ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang departing on April 28 and returning on May 3 of Bamboo Airways costs 2.7 million VND, Vietjet Air is 3.1 million VND and Vietnam Airlines is 3.2 million VND.

Reasons for the increase in ticket prices

Thus, airfares are increasing by several million VND compared to normal days. According to the airlines, air transport services are highly seasonal. During peak periods such as summer or the April 30 holiday, travel demand increases dramatically, while airline supply is limited, leading to high ticket prices.

Besides, one of the reasons affecting airfares is the shortage of aircraft fleet.

Recently, aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney announced a recall of PW1100 engines for inspection and repair; it is estimated that 600-700 PW1100 engines in operation worldwide may be affected.

In Vietnam, the PW1100 engine is used on some A321neo aircraft. Due to the engine recall, these aircraft will stop operating in 2024 and may be extended to 2025.

Bamboo Airways also stopped operating its fleet of Embraer E190 aircraft (3 aircraft) and stopped flights using this type of aircraft, such as: Hanoi to Thua Thien Hue, Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau); Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Hoi, Con Dao to restructure, cut costs, and increase efficiency.
