Airlines have opened ticket sales for the holiday, with popular domestic flight fares ranging from 1.5 to 2 million VND each way, including taxes and fees.
Particularly on peak holiday days, Vietjet Air's lowest ticket price is 1.8 million VND if flying late, while Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways have prices from 2.6 million VND.
Vietravel Airlines currently lists from 2.7 million VND for each way flight.
For routes to popular tourist destinations, ticket prices are 2 to 3 times higher than normal days. For example, the Hanoi - Nha Trang route currently costs from 3.7 to 3.9 million VND each way, while on normal days it is only from 1.6 to 1.9 million VND.
The ticket price for the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route is usually around 1.5 million VND, but has increased to at least 3.5 million VND during the holiday.
Not only domestic flights, international flight tickets departing from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi also increased significantly.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Bangkok route costs 1.6 million VND in early April, but during the holidays it goes up to 3 million VND.
Vietjet's Ho Chi Minh City - Singapore route also increased from 1.6 million to 3.1 million VND each way.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Vu, Deputy General Director of Viet Tourism Company, round-trip ticket prices for the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route have increased by 30% to 40%, currently ranging from 4.5 to 6.5 million VND.
Some other routes such as Hanoi – Nha Trang or Hanoi – Quy Nhon also increased from 10% to 20%, bringing the round-trip ticket price up to 6 million VND. This makes many tourists choose alternative options such as going abroad or using buses and trains to reduce costs.
It is common for ticket prices to increase during the holidays due to increased demand for travel. This leads to price caps and many people have to book tickets early.
Some flights have been "sold out" early, especially the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc routes.
