On March 28, 2025, steel prices in Vietnam remained stable at VND13,330 - 14,140/kg, without any clear impact from the international market, where steel prices decreased slightly (USD450/ton) but iron ore increased (USD103-108/ton) due to seasonal demand in China. In the short term, the domestic market remains safe, but if trade tensions escalate or raw material prices continue to increase, domestic steel prices may face adjustment pressure in the coming time.
Steel price today 3/28/2025 on international market
The international steel and iron ore markets on March 28, 2025 showed slight fluctuations with mixed trends. The price of rebar for November 2025 delivery on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) fell 17 yuan to 3,272 yuan/ton (about 450 USD/ton), reflecting pressure from falling industrial profits and the escalating US-China trade war, especially after President Trump's announcement of a 25% tariff on imported cars.
Iron ore prices, on the other hand, rose on seasonal steel demand in China, with the May contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) rising 1.28% to 789 yuan ($108.67) a tonne and the April contract on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) rising 0.77% to $103.15 a tonne. The recovery was supported by the peak construction season in March-April, when hot metal output rose 56,700 tonnes to 2.3626 million tonnes and imported ore consumption rose 67,900 tonnes, according to Everbright Futures.
Other raw materials such as metallurgical coal and coking coal on the DCE also rose 0.93% and 1.4% respectively, while steel on the SHFE traded mixed: hot-rolled coil and wire rod edged down (0.2% and 0.29%), while stainless steel rose 0.15%. Overall, the market was affected by domestic demand in China and international tariff uncertainties, creating a divergence between steel and iron ore.
