Rice prices in the Mekong Delta region on March 28 recorded slight fluctuations. Fresh rice prices tended to increase, while rice and by-products generally remained stable compared to the previous day.
In localities such as An Giang, fragrant rice transactions are quite stable, prices have increased slightly, while the consumption of common white rice is slower. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and Sa Dec market area, the quantity of goods is not much but the price of rice remains stable. In An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), the supply is sporadic, the price of good rice is stable, and warehouses are still actively buying fragrant rice.

Fragrant rice, regular rice and high-end varieties such as Jasmine, Huong Lai or Japanese rice were all stable at between VND15,000 and VND22,000/kg. However, the price of bran tended to decrease slightly by VND1,000/kg, currently only ranging from VND8,000 to VND9,000/kg.

In the fresh rice segment, transactions today were relatively stable. In Bac Lieu, many traders asked to buy fragrant rice, farmers' selling prices increased slightly. In An Giang, some areas recorded a decrease in rice volume, slow transactions but prices remained stable. In Kien Giang, Japonica rice prices increased slightly, consumption demand was quite good. Dong Thap recorded regular transactions, fragrant rice prices remained stable.

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continue to compete with major exporting countries. 5% broken rice is currently offered at $400/ton, close to Thailand’s $401/ton and $4/ton higher than the same type of rice from India. Meanwhile, Pakistani rice remains the lowest priced at only $391/ton.
Faced with the constantly fluctuating rice market, the Vietnamese Government has asked ministries and sectors to intervene to regulate supply and demand, ensuring sustainable export activities. Enterprises are also supported to access capital to purchase and temporarily store rice for export, contributing to keeping domestic rice prices stable.
Internationally, Thailand continues to be the largest rice supplier to the US, with exports increasing compared to last year. India has also just finished a bumper crop, achieving a record total output of more than 278 million tons of rice in the 2024–2025 crop year. As a result, the country lifted the ban on broken rice exports from March 7 and is ready to export about 2 million tons to the market, mainly to Africa and China.
However, even though India returns to the market, the impact on global rice prices is expected to be small as world supply is quite abundant.
