DNVN - On December 10, 2024, the price of live pigs recorded a slight increase in the North and Central regions. Currently, the price of live pigs nationwide is between 60,000 and 64,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in the North
In the North, the price of live pigs increased by VND1,000/kg in the two provinces of Bac Giang and Nam Dinh, reaching VND64,000/kg and VND63,000/kg, respectively.
Prices in this area currently fluctuate between 62,000 and 64,000 VND/kg. The localities with the highest prices in the country, reaching 64,000 VND/kg, include Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Bac Giang and Hai Duong.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands, the price of live pigs increased in two localities, Quang Tri and Quang Nam, both reaching 61,000 VND/kg.
Currently, Khanh Hoa is the only province in the region recording the lowest price at 60,000 VND/kg. Traders here are purchasing live pigs at prices ranging from 60,000 to 63,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in the South
In the South, the price of live pigs remained stable, unchanged from before, with trading prices ranging from 61,000 to 64,000 VND/kg.
In the region, Can Tho City continues to lead with live hog prices reaching 64,000 VND/kg. In contrast, Hau Giang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh recorded the lowest price of 61,000 VND/kg.
In general, the price of live pigs nationwide continues to increase slightly in the North and Central regions. Surveys show that the current price fluctuates between 60,000 and 64,000 VND/kg.
According to the current trend, the price of live pigs is forecast to continue to increase slightly in some localities. This increase is mainly due to the high demand for food at the end of the year, along with the insufficient supply.
Factors affecting pig prices
Pork consumption is expected to increase sharply during the year-end and Lunar New Year holidays, especially in big cities, which is the main driver of the price increase. At the same time, the scale of livestock farming has been reduced and production costs have increased, causing supply to decrease compared to previous months.
However, imports of frozen pork from other countries to stabilize the market may help limit price increases in the short term. Local governments and regulatory agencies can also implement regulatory measures to stabilize prices amid rising demand.
Domestic pig prices currently range from VND60,000 to VND64,000 per kilogram. Some businesses predict that as Tet approaches, pig prices may increase slightly, reaching VND68,000 to VND70,000 per kilogram. Although demand is expected to increase during the Tet holiday, a sudden increase in prices is unlikely.
