In the North

The Northern live pig market on March 29 recorded stable prices in many localities.

Specifically, provinces such as Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen, Ha Nam, Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Tuyen Quang maintained the price of 67,000 VND/kg.

Notably, the two provinces of Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc had a slight decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, down to 66,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, Thai Binh still keeps the price higher than the general level at 68,000 VND/kg.

In general, the price of live pigs in the North today did not have many major fluctuations, with the main trend being that the price remained stable and only a few localities slightly adjusted down.

In the Central Highlands region

In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the live pig market on March 29 witnessed a downward trend in prices in many provinces and cities.

The common reduction is 1,000 VND/kg in localities such as Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan.

Some provinces have deeper reductions, specifically Quang Binh and Khanh Hoa with a reduction of 2,000 VND/kg.

Lam Dong and Dak Lak also recorded a similar decrease of VND 2,000/kg, bringing the price of live pigs in Lam Dong down to VND 73,000/kg and Dak Lak to VND 70,000/kg.

Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces maintain the price at 66,000 VND/kg.

Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai have relatively higher prices, at 69,000 VND/kg, although they also experienced downward adjustments.

In the Southern region

The Southern live pig market on March 29 witnessed fluctuations with the dominant downward trend.

Provinces with a reduction of VND1,000/kg include Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Tien Giang and Ben Tre.

A decrease of more than 2,000 VND/kg was recorded in Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Long An, An Giang and Tra Vinh.

Meanwhile, some provinces remained stable or had high prices such as Vinh Long (75,000 VND/kg), Can Tho (76,000 VND/kg) and Ca Mau (77,000 VND/kg), with no change recorded compared to the previous day.

Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang have a slight decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, all at 75,000 VND/kg.

The North maintained relative stability, while the Central Highlands witnessed a clear downward trend. In the South, the market was differentiated with many localities recording different levels of decline, while some places still kept prices high or unchanged.

African swine fever persists, Cam Xuyen thoroughly controls

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh, African swine fever is currently occurring in 8 communes (Yen Hoa, Cam Duong, Cam Thach, Cam Thanh, Cam Due, Tuong Son, Thach Tri and Hoa Hai) in 2 districts (Cam Xuyen, Huong Khe) and Ha Tinh city for less than 21 days.

The entire district has destroyed 705 pigs with a total weight of 53,007.6 kg from 96 households/40 villages/11 communes. Through assessment, compared to before, this epidemic has been quite persistent (from October 2024 to present), according to Ha Tinh newspaper.

Mr. Phan Vinh Toan - Officer of the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of Cam Xuyen district informed: "Through monitoring, it is shown that the outbreak in the area is due to many reasons such as: people mainly raise sows and piglets, while these subjects are not recommended to be vaccinated against swine fever, so the infection rate is high.

In addition, the weather since Tet has been unfavorable, with many periods of humidity and constant temperature changes, creating favorable conditions for disease to invade. Moreover, small-scale farmers have not really followed biosafety farming procedures and are subjective in disease prevention and control work..."

It is known that the total herd of pigs in Cam Xuyen district is currently nearly 58,000. According to the professional sector, in the context of complicated developments of infectious diseases in livestock herds across the country and African swine fever in many localities in the province, including Cam Xuyen, has not been controlled, farmers need to strictly apply biosafety measures in livestock farming according to the recommendations of the professional sector; focus on implementing hygiene, disinfection, sterilization of barns, livestock environments and related areas to ensure requirements and frequency; do not re-herd or increase herds when disease safety conditions have not been ensured to avoid losses.
