* Pig prices in the North decreased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg last week.
Specifically, after a decrease of 3,000 VND/kg, localities including Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang purchased at 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.
Other localities traded at 49,000 VND/kg and 50,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.
Today's live pig price in the North is around 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.
* The live pig market in the Central and Central Highlands regions fluctuated between 1,000 - 4,000 VND/kg last week.
Currently, live pigs in Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces are purchased at 53,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.
Ninh Thuan province continued to trade at 51,000 VND/kg while other localities decreased by 1,000 - 4,000 VND/kg to 49,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 49,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.
* Pig prices in the South fluctuated inconsistently last week.
In detail, after a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, Bac Lieu province traded at 52,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, traders in localities including Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Vinh Long and Ca Mau adjusted prices up by VND1,000 - 2,000/kg to around VND52,000 - 55,000/kg.
Other localities buy at stable prices.
The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is around 51,000 - 55,000 VND/kg.
* Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) commented that animal diseases in the world are very complicated. In particular, African swine fever is still very widespread, avian influenza occurs in 71 countries and territories with more than 6,300 outbreaks, the risk of infection is very high, foot-and-mouth disease broke out for the first time in the island nation of Indonesia causing heavy losses...
Domestically, according to data from the Department of Animal Health, from the beginning of 2023 to now, the country has had 481 outbreaks of African swine fever in 42 provinces and cities, forcing the destruction of over 18,000 pigs.
Foot and mouth disease has 22 outbreaks of type O in 15 districts and towns of 11 provinces and cities nationwide, with 760 infected cattle and 26 culled. Lumpy skin disease has 100 outbreaks in 15 provinces and cities, with 468 infected cattle and 95 culled buffaloes and cows. Blue ear disease has 5 outbreaks, with 542 pigs dead and culled.
According to the Department of Animal Health, the risk of recurrence and spread of livestock and poultry diseases in the coming time remains high. In particular, there is a risk of African swine fever recurring and spreading widely in the coming time, because this disease virus can survive for a long time in the environment, and the transmission route is very complicated.
The weather is in the transitional season, complicated, detrimental to the health of livestock and creating favorable conditions for pathogens.
