Ca Mau crab price sets record, surpassing 1.1 million VND/kg

The price of commercial sea crabs increased sharply in the days before Tet, helping many farmers in Ca Mau excitedly harvest and sell to earn money for Tet.

On January 26, Mr. Du Thai Binh - Director of Du Thai Binh Company Limited, Nam Can District, Ca Mau Province - told Tuoi Tre Newspaper that grade 1 crabs (from 400 grams/crab or more) were purchased for more than 1.1 million VND/kg; grade 2 crabs (from 300 to under 400 grams/crab) cost 900,000 VND/kg; the best crabs cost 450,000 VND/kg.

"The price of crab is high, but the amount of sea crab that the company buys and sells during Tet this year only increased by about 30% compared to normal days. The reason for the low crab output is because there is little crab left in the population," Mr. Binh shared.

Ca Mau sea crab has firm meat and sweet taste, so it is the preferred choice of consumers for use and as gifts at the beginning of the new year.

Ca Mau has a crab farming area of more than 240,000 hectares concentrated in the districts of Nam Can, Ngoc Hien, Cai Nuoc, Dam Doi... Ca Mau crab output reaches more than 25,000 tons/year.

3rd day of Tet: Flower prices stable, temple offerings and votive offerings in high demand

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, on the third day of Tet, purchasing power and goods supply were more abundant as many traditional markets and supermarkets reopened to meet consumer demand at the beginning of the year.

At traditional markets, in addition to fruit items for offerings at pagodas at the beginning of the year and the burning of votive paper, the items sold are mainly fresh foods (seafood, beef, vegetables).

Compared to the days before Tet (28-30 Tet), the prices of vegetables and fresh flowers at the market did not increase much and were similar to the second day of Tet.

In general, in the first days of the year, there are very few trading activities, people mainly go to wish a happy new year and go to pagodas. Therefore, offerings to pagodas and worship services are in high demand.

Parking fee increased to 100,000 VND on Tet holiday

The Ministry of Finance said that most markets and supermarkets are closed for Tet, so shopping demand is not high so prices are stable, but parking services in some places have increased.

Lao Dong newspaper reported that vehicle parking services at spontaneous locations near temples, pagodas, and tourist areas have increased, with motorbikes ranging from 5,000-20,000 VND/vehicle, and cars from 50,000-100,000 VND/vehicle.

Coffee prices set new record

Coffee prices broke all previous records as the main supply, Vietnam, was disrupted due to the Tet holiday.

According to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, at the end of the trading session on January 30 (Vietnam time, the second day of Tet) on the London - UK exchange, Robusta coffee prices continued to increase, officially breaking the record of the highest price trading session in history at 5,565 USD/ton on November 29, 2024 (Vietnam time). Robusta coffee prices closed this session up 0.88-1.33% compared to the previous session, with the long-term delivery period increasing more strongly than the short-term delivery period.

Thus, Robusta coffee prices continue to be pushed up, despite the fact that supply will be supplemented after May 2025 due to Brazil's harvest. Temporarily converted according to the exchange rate, Robusta coffee prices are equivalent to 134,000-139,000 VND/kg.

With the current market price developments, some people expect coffee to reach new milestones of 150,000 VND/kg, or even higher.
