'Garnacho keeps dreaming of being Ronaldo and will ruin his career'

Alejandro Garnacho - the player expected to be the 'new Ronaldo' at Old Trafford, was publicly criticised by former defender Paul Parker for his ineffective play and unprofessional attitude.

Former right-back Paul Parker - who played for MU from 1991 to 1996, affirmed: "I really liked him when he first emerged, with his very own Argentine fire. But now he has completely disappeared. He has disappointed his family and the club because he did not know how to take advantage of his natural talent."

"Garnacho doesn't know what he's good at, and he doesn't improve his weaknesses. He's not fast enough, he's not determined enough, he doesn't work hard enough. So what is he really good at? I see him as more of a Ronaldo fanboy than a real player, more focused on creating highlights on social media than fighting to bring the team back to the top," Parker emphasized.

“We can’t keep saying Garnacho is young. In football, 21 is no longer young. Ryan Giggs started for MU when he was 17 and no one said he was too young at 21. Garnacho needs to mature both in his playing style and his thinking. If he continues to dream of becoming Ronaldo, he will never have a career worthy of him,” the former defender concluded.

Joining Old Trafford in 2020 at the age of 16, Garnacho quickly attracted attention with his fast, daring style of play, and especially his close relationship with Ronaldo when the Portuguese superstar returned to the club in 2021. However, instead of becoming a new icon, Garnacho's career has stagnated over the past 12 months.

The Argentine player caused a stir when he liked a post criticizing coach Erik ten Hag for substituting him. Despite apologizing later, Garnacho was caught again expressing his displeasure after being substituted early by coach Ruben Amorim recently.

Garnacho was rumoured to be leaving Old Trafford in the January 2025 transfer window, but has remained and is trying to fit into Amorim's 3-4-3 formation. He is often used as an attacking midfielder rather than purely as a winger.

This season, Garnacho has only scored 4 goals in the Premier League, while MU is struggling in 13th place.

Bruno Fernandes shined on the day MU won big against Leicester. In the early morning of March 17, Bruno scored 1 goal and 2 assists to help MU defeat host Leicester 3-0 in round 29 of the Premier League.
