Murray had an interesting chat with Messi. |
Former star Andy Murray shared an interesting moment when he met Lionel Messi during his visit to the Miami Open. In a humorous post on his personal page, Murray said he asked Messi the classic question: "Can you play well on a cold rainy night in Stoke?"
In response to Murray's teasing question, Messi bluntly replied in Spanish: "Callate la boca" (roughly translated: Shut up). Murray humorously wrote: "I asked him if he could do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke. He replied 'callate la boca', which I think means 'yes' in Spanish."
The question has long been a common refrain among Messi's sceptics, who argue that he has never been exposed to the rigours of the Premier League, especially Stoke City's physical style of play. Although Stoke have now been relegated to the Championship, the phrase remains emblematic of the tough English football environment.
Messi and Murray are likely to watch the Miami Open final between Novak Djokovic and Jakub Mensik early tomorrow morning (March 31). Before that, Messi was in the stands cheering on Djokovic in the match against Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-finals.
On the morning of March 30, Messi continued to make his mark when he scored just 2 minutes after coming off the bench, helping Inter Miami win 2-1 against Philadelphia Union in round 6 of MLS 2025.
