Bringing Vietnam - Cambodia defense cooperation to new heights

The visit of the high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense will create momentum to bring the defense relations between the two countries to new heights, contributing to further deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the invitation of General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member and Minister of National Defense, a high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense led by General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 12-14.

This morning, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang presided over the official welcoming ceremony for the high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense.

At the welcoming ceremony, General Phan Van Giang and General Tea Seiha performed the flag-saluting ceremony and inspected the honor guard. After the welcoming ceremony, the two generals co-chaired talks between the two delegations.

At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang expressed his belief that the visit of the high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense will be a great success. The visit will create momentum to bring the defense relations between the two countries to a new level, contributing to further deepening the friendly and traditional relationship between the two countries in general and the two armies in particular. Also here, the two sides assessed that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has achieved many positive results such as border management cooperation effectively implemented by the functional forces of both sides, contributing to preventing free migration, illegal border crossing, cross-border crimes, maintaining security and order in the border area; continuing to implement border demarcation and marker planting, building a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing border; cooperation in training, coaching, experts, support, aid, searching and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers... continues to be promoted and achieves many substantive results.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination, continue to effectively implement the Protocol for the 2019-2024 period and the annual cooperation plan, bring defense cooperation to a new level, actively contribute to the good development of good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia. Assessing that 2024 will see many meaningful events for the two countries and the two armies, especially the 45th anniversary of the Victory Day over the Cambodian Genocide Regime (January 7, 1979 - January 7, 2024) and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the two sides will coordinate to organize meaningful activities to celebrate these important events. In addition, close coordination will be needed to successfully organize the first Border Defense Friendship Exchange between Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and the annual meeting between the three Defense Ministers in December. On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang respectfully invited Minister Tea Seiha and leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the Royal Cambodian Army to attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in late 2024.

At the invitation of General Phan Van Giang, General Tea Seiha happily accepted the invitation. On behalf of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, General Tea Seiha thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for supporting the development of the Royal Cambodian Army to what it is today. General Tea Seiha said that this was his first visit to Vietnam as Minister of National Defense of Cambodia. Therefore, the visit will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries and the two armies of Cambodia and Vietnam. After the talks at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, the high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense will pay a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and President Vo Van Thuong.
