In recent times, the tourism industry in Da Nang City has had a spectacular recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City, in the first 9 months of 2024, the total number of visitors staying in Da Nang was about 8.67 million. Compared to 2019, the proportion of visitors from Korea, China, Thailand, and Japan decreased, especially the Korean market decreased by 8.5% and China decreased by 13.6%. Offsetting this decrease was the growth of some new markets such as: Taiwan increased by 8.1%, India increased by 4.2%, Russia increased by 1.4%... This reality reflects the shift trend of some traditional tourist markets to new destinations, and at the same time demonstrates the effectiveness of diversifying the international tourist market.
As of September 2024, there are 20 flights to Da Nang, including 15 regular international flights; 27 cruise ships and 32,550 passengers to Da Nang. Regarding railway transportation, it is estimated to welcome 538,024 passengers; it is expected that in 2024, Da Nang will welcome 648,540 passengers by rail.
Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh shared that tourism products are invested in developing 11 types of unique products to attract tourists. In particular, international events such as: Da Nang Asian Film Festival, Da Nang International Marathon, Vietnam - Brazil Football Festival, Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival.
At the same time, MICE tourism activities, Golf tourism, culinary tourism... contribute to promoting the Da Nang brand to the world. In particular, the pilot program to attract wedding tourists, in the first 9 months of 2024, contributed to attracting 35 weddings, in the form of wedding tourism with couples from India, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and the US.

However, Ms. Hanh said that the tourism environment in Da Nang still has the situation of soliciting customers and street vendors on some routes; the quality of human resources serving tourism is uneven and unprofessional. Infrastructure is not yet guaranteed for tourism development, some traffic routes are still under repair; there is a risk of landslides on routes in Son Tra peninsula. Along with that is the competition with international destinations from Thailand, China, etc.
To find solutions to ensure the "smokeless industry" develops stably and continues to grow sustainably, on October 14, 2024, Da Nang City held a conference to evaluate the city's tourism activities in the first 9 months of 2024 and deploy tasks for the last months of 2024 and 2025.
At the conference, Ms. Hanh requested the People's Committees of districts to allocate human resources and resources to ensure the implementation of state management functions on tourism. For key tourist localities such as Hai Chau, Son Tra, and Ngu Hanh Son districts, it is necessary to consider establishing a tourism management office.
Representatives of businesses proposed many solutions to develop sustainable tourism in Da Nang as well as ensure safety and security for tourists; and remove difficulties and obstacles of tourism businesses.
According to Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, on the basis of resources, infrastructure, existing service systems, and planning approved by the Government, Da Nang must call for the support of investors with enough capacity and thinking to move towards sustainable tourism development for Da Nang.
Mr. Dung said that, along with strengthening the management of a clean and green tourism environment, ensuring security and safety for tourists, Da Nang City needs to have strong solutions to continue improving activities to attract international visitors in the coming time such as: completing the infrastructure system, digital transformation in tourism, solving the problem of motorbike exhaust pollution...
Need to actively transform digitally and renew destinations
Representatives of businesses attending the conference also suggested that in the coming time, the tourism industry needs to continue implementing policies to attract MICE tourists and wedding tourists; stimulating programs to attract tourists at the end of the year, stimulating the Indian tourist market; promoting exploitation of the Australian tourist market...
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh, Vice President of the Vietnam Hotel Association, conference events that attract businessmen, business leaders... will contribute to the brand of Da Nang. It is a city of innovation, a center for information sharing and in-depth training in the fields of technology, tourism trade, and health care of international stature.
Ms. Lam Nhat Quynh Chau, Representative of Sun World (Sun Group), Da Nang needs to continue to have solutions to encourage and create conditions for businesses and destinations to develop night tourism, making Da Nang a vibrant and attractive night-time destination. Da Nang also expands and exploits the market of tourists from China, Australia, the US, the Middle East, Uzbekistan, India, Southeast Asia. Da Nang City will focus on 8 key tasks, especially measures to ensure security, safety, rescue for tourists; food safety and hygiene; urban beauty; street vendors, customer solicitation. Implement the Da Nang "Da Nang Smile" Tourism Culture Criteria Set. At the conference, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang acknowledged the efforts and coordination of sectors and businesses in the service and tourism sector to form supply chains and alliances to exploit diverse products and services; especially the advisory role of the Department of Tourism and the coordination of sectors in recent times.
