Accordingly, National Highway 1 running through Binh Chanh District is a vital route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western provinces, connecting with many important traffic axes. For many years, this road section has been frequently overloaded due to the very high traffic volume, especially during peak holidays and Tet.
As planned, the section of National Highway 1 running through Binh Tan District - Binh Chanh District, over 9.6km long, will be expanded to 60m, divided into 3 main sections: the section from Kinh Duong Vuong intersection to Tan Kien intersection will be expanded to 12 lanes; the section from Tan Kien intersection to before Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway intersection will be expanded to 12 lanes; the section from after Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway intersection to Long An province border will be expanded to 10 lanes.
In addition to road expansion, the project also renovates key intersections to reduce traffic conflicts. Specifically, the intersection with Kinh Duong Vuong Street is expected to build a 4-lane overpass on National Highway 1, crossing Kinh Duong Vuong and Tran Dai Nghia Streets. The An Lac roundabout to Tran Dai Nghia Street will be expanded. The Binh Thuan intersection will build a 4-lane overpass on National Highway 1 and a 4-lane underpass on Nguyen Van Linh Street.
The total investment is expected to be about 16,270 billion VND. The project to compensate, support and resettle people in Binh Tan district is about 1,068 billion VND; compensation, support and resettle people in Binh Chanh district is more than 8,500 billion VND.
The project is implemented under a BOT contract of about 6,659 billion VND, with toll collection expected on 8 main lanes, while 4 parallel lanes will not be charged to ensure the rights of the people. The estimated toll collection period is 21 years and 10 months.
The project is expected to start construction in early 2026 and be completed and put into operation in 2028.
