Attending the meeting were comrade Nguyen Nhu Hieu, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; leaders of a number of departments, branches and sectors of the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said that Lao Cai has a geo-economic and political position, is a "bridge" on the economic corridor of Kunming (China) - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh (Vietnam), and is a transit center of goods between the ASEAN region and the Southwest region of China.
Lao Cai has 4 potentials and comparative advantages for socio-economic development. These are advantages in border gate economic development, potential for industrial development, agriculture - forestry and tourism.
According to the orientation to 2030, vision to 2045, Lao Cai is identified as the growth pole of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that on the basis of the positive development of the Vietnam - Thailand relationship, which is increasingly deepening, many Thai enterprises have come to study and seek cooperation and investment opportunities in Lao Cai. Currently, there are 2 investment projects of Thai investors in the province with a total investment capital of 17.03 million USD in the field of trade.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Thai Embassy in Vietnam to continue to pay attention to and promote cooperation between Lao Cai province and the Thai Embassy and Thai partners in the coming time. He requested the Ambassador and the Thai Embassy to pay attention to and support promotion to attract Thai businesses to come and explore investment opportunities and cooperation in Lao Cai.
Regarding the Thai Princess Project, Comrade Hoang Quoc Khanh asked the Ambassador to discuss with the Thai Princess Project Office to coordinate with relevant units of Lao Cai province to complete the procedures for building component documents to support Nam Cuong Primary School (Lao Cai city) within the framework of the Project "Improving the quality of life for children and adolescents in the Asia - Pacific region" to serve as a basis for implementing the following contents in the coming time.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also proposed that the Thai Embassy in Vietnam and Lao Cai province agree to establish a cooperation mechanism and exchange information on cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism, etc.
Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam, thanked the leaders of Lao Cai province for the thoughtful and respectful reception.
The Ambassador agreed with the proposals of Lao Cai province, and said that these proposals are in line with the direction of encouraging Thai businesses to promote cooperation and investment in countries in the region. With its role, the Thai Embassy will step up promotional support for Thai businesses to come and explore opportunities and cooperate and invest in Lao Cai.
Regarding the second "Meet Thailand" conference in Lao Cai province, the Ambassador said that the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand hopes that Lao Cai province and Vietnamese ministries and branches will closely coordinate with the Thai Embassy to carefully prepare activities so that this is truly an opportunity to connect and promote exchanges and cooperation between people and businesses of the two countries.
Regarding the preparations for the Thai Princess’s visit to Lao Cai, the Ambassador said that the Thai Royal Family’s official visits always receive special attention from the Thai public, so the Thai Embassy hopes that Lao Cai province will support the event to be successful. Hopefully, through this visit, the image of a friendly, hospitable Lao Cai with great potential for cooperation and investment will be better known in Thailand.
Comrade Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that organizing the "Meeting Thailand" conference in Lao Cai and welcoming the Thai Princess to visit will be an opportunity for Lao Cai to promote its image, take advantage of opportunities to attract investment, trade and tourism cooperation. Therefore, the province will direct relevant departments and branches to coordinate with the Embassy's departments and the Department of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to make efforts to successfully organize these two important events.
The "Meet Thailand" conference in Lao Cai will take place at the end of August 2024
Comrade Nguyen Nhu Hieu, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) said that based on the agreement between the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the "Meeting Thailand" Conference in Lao Cai will take place at the end of August 2024.
The event will be attended by about 600 delegates from central ministries, departments, and agencies, leaders of 14 provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountains and provinces and cities with cooperative relations with Thailand, along with a large number of businesses. On the Thai side, there will be the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Vietnam, along with the business community and large corporations of Thailand.
Within the framework of the conference, there will be many activities such as: Dialogue connecting Lao Cai - Thailand; cultural, music, culinary exchange; display of typical products of Vietnam and Thailand; Plenary meeting between Thailand and Vietnam; organizing discussion sessions with the topics: Connecting supply chains; connecting localities and businesses; connecting sustainable growth strategies.
