On the afternoon of December 16, the Vietnamese team arrived in the capital Manila of the Philippines, to prepare for the match with the host team taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 18 (the fourth match of Group B of the AFF Cup 2024). After completing immigration procedures and collecting luggage, the whole team moved to the hotel to rest.
On the afternoon of December 16, after a flight of more than 3 hours from Hanoi, the Vietnamese team arrived in Manila to prepare for the match against the Philippines team in Group B of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship. Although quite tired due to the tense match with Indonesia and having to depart early in the morning, the whole team still maintained their spirit and positive energy. At Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Vietnamese team received a warm welcome from the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines, Mr. Lai Thai Binh, and embassy staff. The Ambassador sent his congratulations and encouragement to the whole team, expressing his belief that the team will continue to achieve the best results in the match on December 18.

Also this afternoon, the Vietnamese team will practice. The main players in the match against Indonesia will be given a chance to rest, while the rest will practice tactics like in previous training sessions. Coach Kim Sang-sik is expected to reduce the training volume so that his players can recover and reach their peak performance for the important match at Rizal Memorial Stadium in the Philippines.
Coach Kim Sang-sik shared: "All teams are facing a situation where the schedule is tight, and players will face health impacts. I, the coaching staff and the players all understand and agree on this. As I said, all teams are facing this problem, without exception. We will adjust so that the players can be in the best condition."

According to the plan, after settling in Manila, Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will start their first training session at Rizal Memorial Stadium that same evening. This stadium is known as the main football venue at the 2019 SEA Games and is also where the U.22 Vietnam team won the Gold Medal after defeating Indonesia 3-0 in the final match.
While the Vietnamese team won both of their first two matches, earning a full 6 points, the host Philippines is disappointing. The team nicknamed "The Azkals" drew 1-1 with Myanmar and Laos. With 2 points, the Philippines must make great efforts in the remaining 2 matches to compete for a ticket to the semi-finals.
The Vietnamese team has won all five of their most recent encounters with the Philippines, scoring 12 goals and conceding five. At the opponent's Rizal Memorial Stadium alone, Quang Hai and his teammates have also won both of their most recent away matches. However, the artificial pitch in Manila will force coach Kim Sang-sik and his team to consider their playing style, as the bounce and rolling speed of the ball will be very different from that of natural grass.
