Changes in the revolutionary homeland of Gia Vien

Gia Vien is a land of outstanding people, with a long history and culture and an important strategic position in the fight against invaders. According to the History of Gia Vien District Party Committee, in the uprising to seize power in 1945, Gia Vien was chosen by the Provincial Party Committee as the starting point of the uprising and directed to win victory in the first battle.

Implementing the resolution of the Provincial Party Committee, the Viet Minh of Gia Vien district directed the Party cells and Viet Minh groups in the communes to gather forces for the uprising. At that time, the revolutionary spirit in the villages and communes in the district was unprecedentedly fervent; the self-defense forces and the people eagerly prepared their weapons and gathered, ready to launch the uprising at the right time.

On August 18, 1945, the Bich Son Self-Defense Force received the order to revolt early, gathered forces and marched up to Me Street, combined with the self-defense force and the people of Me Street to convince the district chief to hand over the government. On the morning of August 19, 1945, the armed forces liberated the revolutionary base of Quynh Luu, the self-defense force for national salvation and the revolutionary masses of Loi Son, Ngoc Dong, Sinh Duoc, Lac Khoi, Ngo Dong, Tri Hoi, Diem Giang, and Bich Son villages marched up to the district town, groups of 5 to 7 people mixed in with the crowd going to Me market, quickly surrounding the district town.

The Viet Minh used loudspeakers to call on the people to rise up and join the uprising to overthrow the Japanese puppet government, soldiers surrendered, and revolutionary forces took control of the district capital. Immediately after the uprising won the government, the representative of the district Viet Minh announced the abolition of the feudal imperialist government of Gia Vien district and established a revolutionary government.

Promoting that heroic tradition, over the years, the Party Committee, government and people of Gia Vien have always united and joined hands to build their homeland to develop more and more. Coming to Gia Phong commune, it is not difficult to recognize the "transformation" of the revolutionary homeland.

The infrastructure system of the commune has been invested in and built spaciously, the traffic routes are wide open, and the flags and flowers are brilliant. The people in the commune are happy to look forward to the activities celebrating the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune Dinh Huy Lua said: During the resistance wars, especially the general uprising to seize power in 1945, Gia Phong people enthusiastically participated in revolutionary activities, contributing with the people in the district to fight against the feudal colonial regime, seize power, and bring independence and freedom.

That patriotic tradition has motivated the people of Gia Phong to always be united and creative in labor production. In particular, implementing the New Rural Development Program, with the policy of "The State and the people work together", 100% of the roads are asphalted, concreted, and hardened to avoid mud in the rainy season; all villages of the commune have cultural houses and have built conventions and village regulations...

Up to now, Gia Phong has 2 villages recognized as model new rural residential areas and the commune strives to meet advanced new rural standards by 2024. Gia Phong is a commune in the flood-diversion and flood-slowing area of Gia Vien district. Previously, the people's economy was mainly agricultural production but fragmented and faced many difficulties.

Now, with the support of all levels and sectors, the people in the commune have transformed crop and livestock varieties, and built highly effective economic models. Livestock and aquaculture have developed towards commodities. Many households have invested in and built large-scale barns, applied scientific and technical advances to livestock farming, ensuring food safety and environmental sanitation.

Promoting economic development has helped Gia Phong's average income per capita in 2022 reach 60 million VND/person/year. Not only Gia Phong, other localities in Gia Vien district have united, focused on leading and directing people to develop the economy and society, contributing to the overall development of the district.

The most prominent and noticeable point in the innovation in Gia Vien district is the synchronous investment in infrastructure, the gradual economic growth, and the improvement of people's material and spiritual life. In particular, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the rural traffic system is constantly being asphalted and concreted to meet development requirements.

Since the beginning of the term, the total mobilized resources for the construction of advanced new rural areas in the district have reached more than 2,082 billion VND. Gia Vien's agricultural production has developed relatively comprehensively in the direction of organic, high-quality agriculture; strengthening linkages along the value chain. The policies and guidelines to support agricultural production of the province and the district have been effective.

Up to now, the whole district has 10 OCOP products; many integrated farm models have achieved an income of 200-500 million VND/year, typically: the aquaculture model of Mr. Bui Duc Thinh, Gia Hoa commune; the association of raising cows in cages and raising porcupines of Mr. Dinh Van Hong, Gia Hoa commune; the integrated farm model of Ms. Vu Thi Nham, Lien Son commune... Despite many difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, industrial production continues to develop.

All levels and sectors have paid attention to promoting administrative procedure reform, doing well in compensation, site clearance, infrastructure construction and ensuring good security and order in the area, creating a favorable environment to attract and encourage economic sectors to invest in production and business fields.

Currently, the district has 1 industrial park (Gian Khau) and 3 industrial clusters (Gia Van, Gia Phu, Gia Lap) with 56 enterprises investing in production and business, contributing a large part to the provincial budget. Enterprises and production establishments outside the industrial parks and clusters have increased in number and operated effectively with 1,880 production and business establishments in the industrial and handicraft sectors, creating jobs for tens of thousands of workers, promoting economic development, and increasing income for workers in the district.

The industrial production value of the whole district in 2022 is estimated at 34,530 billion VND. Tourism continues to recover rapidly after the COVID-19 pandemic. With the advantage of having many famous landscapes, landscapes and historical relics, Gia Vien has promoted tourism development propaganda activities such as: Organizing a program to introduce experiential tours associated with preserving and promoting local historical and cultural values with the theme "Finding the origin", the launching ceremony of the "Green Tourism Week" campaign associated with the Project to reduce plastic waste in the Vietnam tourism industry; Saint Nguyen Temple Festival introduces experiential tours associated with preserving and promoting local historical and cultural values with the theme "Finding the origin of Saint Nguyen"...

At the same time, the district organized a conference to discuss solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles in tourism development in the area; received a Famtrip delegation to survey and introduce tourism products.

Comrade Pham Van Tam, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the Gia Vien District People's Committee said: Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, the Party Committee, Government and people of Gia Vien District will continue to mobilize the strength of the entire political system and the great national unity bloc to be determined to complete the socio-economic development goals set out in the Resolution of the 22nd District Party Congress.

In particular, special attention is paid to implementing solutions for economic development, increasing income, caring for the material and spiritual life of the people, especially policy households, poor households, and households in difficult circumstances in the area.

Looking back on the past with historical milestones in the revolutionary struggle and socio-economic development during the renovation period, the Party Committee, government and people of Gia Vien are continuing to write glorious history in the heroic revolutionary homeland.
