Initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communications since 2019, the national forum on digital technology enterprise development aims to concretize the policies and orientations of the Party and Government on developing digital technology enterprises.

Up to now, this forum has become an annual and large-scale activity of the Vietnamese digital technology business community.

After 4 times taking place in Hanoi, this year the national forum on developing Vietnamese digital technology enterprises was held in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province on December 11, with the theme "Digital technology enterprises - Popularizing digital technology in life".

Sharing at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry (Ministry of Information and Communications) emphasized: The 5th National Forum on Developing Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises is especially directed by the Government Leaders and the Minister of Information and Communications.

“As a major and important event of the IT&T industry, this forum aims to summarize and evaluate the development of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises over the past 4 years,” said Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia.

The forum will also convey core ideas on digital technology development, the Make in Vietnam spirit, and the development of digital technology enterprises to contribute to increasing labor productivity, rapid and sustainable development, inclusive development, escaping the middle-income trap, and making Vietnam a developed country.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia, in the main session and 4 thematic sessions of the national forum on developing Vietnamese digital technology enterprises this year, speakers will share success stories of bringing digital technology into life, helping to change Vietnam and change the world.

In addition, speakers will also discuss the development of products based on new technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips and their introduction to domestic and international markets; about barriers, challenges and breakthrough solutions to provide more and more products, solutions and services on new digital technology platforms to the market.

In particular, at the forum, it is expected that the Government leaders will deliver messages of encouragement and motivation to the digital technology business community to build the position of Vietnam's digital technology industry, affirm Vietnamese intelligence on the world map, orient the Vietnamese digital technology industry to develop strongly and sustainably, and bring digital technology into every corner of life.

Within the framework of the forum, the Ministry of Information and Communications will organize a ceremony to announce and award the 'Make in Vietnam Digital Technology Products 2023' award to honor Vietnamese enterprises and organizations with outstanding digital technology products, solutions and services to solve problems in Vietnam and the world.

The sideline activities of the forum are exhibitions, introductions, and direct experiences of Make in Vietnam digital technology products, demonstrating the capacity of digital technology enterprises to develop digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

Responding to questions from the press, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia affirmed that the national forum on developing Vietnamese digital technology enterprises and the conference 'Vietnamese digital technology enterprises going out to the world' organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications earlier this year are very related to each other.

Currently, the provision of digital technology products and services by Vietnamese digital technology enterprises is mainly for foreign markets. It can be said that 90% of the revenue of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises comes from foreign markets.

Although the majority of revenue comes from FDI enterprises, the contribution of domestic enterprises is increasingly large.

In early 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications launched a campaign to support Vietnamese digital technology enterprises to continue expanding their business markets abroad.

Up to now, the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry has recorded increasingly positive developments, with revenue from foreign markets of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises growing relatively well.

Although not growing as strongly as previous years, due to the downward trend of the electronics sector globally, the growth rate still reached about 10%. Businesses also gained new customers.

“Therefore, in the upcoming forum, the content about helping digital technology businesses develop foreign markets is also an important content,” said Mr. Nguyen Thien Nghia.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the number of digital technology enterprises nationwide by mid-June 2023 reached about 72,000, an increase of 6.70% over the same period last year.

However, revenue in the first 6 months of this year of the sector reached more than 1.44 million billion VND, down 10.35% over the same period in 2022 and reaching 38.87% of the 2023 plan.

Hardware and electronics export turnover is estimated at 51.51 billion USD, down 9.56% over the same period in 2022 and reaching 37.88% of the 2023 plan.
