Originally a remote and difficult-to-travel land of Ke Bao Island (Cai Bau today), Doan Ket Commune (Van Don District) is a place that nurtures a proud revolutionary spirit and will and is the foundation for development efforts with a diverse and dynamic economic structure today.
According to historical records, Doan Ket used to be Ha Vuc village, one of four villages of Dai Doc commune - the only commune located on Ke Bao island (now Cai Bau). Before 1945, Ke Bao had only one commune and an area where Chinese people lived (later Dong Xa and Ha Long communes).
During the French colonial period, Ha Vuc was oppressed by the feudal regime and French mine owners. At that time, despite its remoteness, isolation, self-sufficient economy, and backwardness, Ha Vuc had strengths in rice cultivation and was considered the rice granary of the commune. The village was also known as a place with a strong tradition of revolutionary struggle and was the base of uprisings.

After the success of the August Revolution, Ha Vuc village became a commune and was renamed Doan Ket in 1948. During the resistance war against the French, despite being the most fiercely swept by the enemy on the island, this was still the most solid base in the region, always protecting cadres and protecting the revolution.
Continuing the tradition, after 1954, the people of Doan Ket joined hands to build socialism, boosted production, and made every effort to support the South in defeating the destructive war of the US imperialists. After 1975, Doan Ket continued to work enthusiastically, restored and promoted the socialist economy, and diversified the livestock, crop, aquaculture, and forestry sectors. The commune used to have the highest rice yield and was chosen as the place to build the district's rice seed farm.
With its contributions to the resistance war and national construction, Doan Ket commune was awarded the 3rd class Resistance Medal for its achievements in recruiting soldiers during the resistance war against the US; the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces during the French resistance period in 2010. "Inheriting the strength and revolutionary will of a heroic land, Doan Ket today is interested in promoting its strengths, while dynamically developing other economic sectors. Doan Ket is transforming strongly, developing socio-economics, and people's lives are constantly improving" - Mr. Ha Van Khuong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee shared.
Accordingly, in recent times, Doan Ket has focused all its efforts on socio-economic development and improving people's lives. The commune has focused on promoting its inherent strengths in agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture. The rate of households using national grid electricity and clean water has reached 100%.

In particular, in the past 5 years, with the solidarity, efforts and emulation of the entire political system and the people, Doan Ket commune has achieved many remarkable results in all aspects. The appearance of the commune is constantly changing. The commune's economy has gradually stabilized and grown step by step, cultural life has been improved, and security and order have been maintained.
Up to now, there are no poor households in the commune, social security work has been paid attention to, and infrastructure has been invested in and built. In particular, the commune is gradually approaching the strong development of tourism and services; it is the locality promoting many major dynamic projects, bringing a new look to the land, typically: Van Don Airport, Van Don - Mong Cai Expressway passing through Doan Ket commune...
The average income has also been continuously improved, from 81.15 million VND/person/year (early 2023) to now reaching an average of 93.7 million VND/person/year. The commune has no more poor households, the rate of near-poor households is only 0.96%, reaching and exceeding the target set by the commune's Resolution.

Doan Ket, from a revolutionary base with many difficulties, is now changing day by day, taking steady steps on the path to becoming a dynamic economic locality, promoting modern agriculture, and developing dynamic and sustainable trade services.
