The sudden increase in car traffic as people return home for Tet holiday has caused the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway to be overloaded.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Duy Lan, in charge of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway Operation Management Center (Transportation Construction Investment Joint Stock Company 238) said that by 5:00 p.m. the same day, traffic on Vinh Hao Expressway was still high but gradually returning to normal.

The proposed solution includes diverting traffic on the highway from Dai Ninh intersection (QL28B) to Highway 1.

Traffic police regulate traffic flow and coordinate traffic light adjustments to suit each time.

"We are currently continuing to regulate traffic at Dai Ninh intersection when traffic volume increases. At the same time, we are arranging forces to be on duty 24/7. When traffic is congested, we will regulate traffic to National Highway 1 to reduce pressure on Vinh Hao intersection," said Mr. Lan.

Vehicles lined up on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway on the morning of February 3.

Regarding the cause of the prolonged congestion at Vinh Hao intersection spreading to the highway, a representative of Highway Patrol Team No. 6 (Traffic Police Department) said that it was due to the sudden increase in the number of cars on the highway.

When arriving at the intersection of National Highway 1, stopping to wait for the traffic light causes the vehicles behind to move slowly, the vehicles to exit slowly... causing congestion.

Before that, at around 7am on February 3, vehicles began to move slowly from Tuy Phong district towards Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa to the North.

Vehicles had to stop and wait for several green lights before turning onto Highway 1, causing congestion at the intersection.

The congestion also spread to National Highway 1, more than 5km long, bordering Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces.

On the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, on the afternoon of February 3, a representative of Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VEC E) said that in the morning of the same day, due to the impact of a series of accidents between 4 cars, at that time the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh - Dau Giay was congested for about 3km, and it was not until early afternoon that it was stable again.
