From July 1, 63 Departments of Education and Training of provinces and cities across the country will convene examination boards to begin marking the 2024 high school graduation exam.
Will be less than 10 points
Commenting on the Math exam, Dr. Pham Hong Danh, Principal of Vinh Vien High School, former lecturer of the Faculty of Mathematics - Statistics of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, said that this year's Math exam had 60% of questions similar to the sample exam. The difficult questions to classify good and excellent students between the sample exam and the official exam were quite different. The introductions in the difficult questions were quite complicated and lengthy, causing confusion for candidates. Some questions took a lot of time to exploit the hypotheses. There were even questions that were so difficult that they were illogical and meaningless in terms of thinking as well as in reality. Regarding the score distribution, it is predicted that about 70%-80% of candidates will get 3-7 points. Scores of 9 and 10 will be less than last year.
Meanwhile, the Natural Science exam (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) is generally more difficult than in 2023. Regarding Physics, Mr. Le Van Quyen, a teacher at Hoa Lu High School (District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) commented that the exam was very good and was still the most difficult of all. The first 25 questions can be easily done by average students by applying basic formulas in textbooks. From questions 26 to 31 are for good students. From questions 32 to 40 are for excellent students and to do these questions, students must have a good understanding of physical phenomena as well as a solid knowledge of mathematics. Like other subjects, the Physics exam also has questions that should not be given in the form of objective multiple choice tests. Regarding the score distribution, it is predicted that this year's exam scores will be concentrated in the 4-5 point range. The number of 6-7 points will be similar to last year. However, points 9 and 10 will be less than in 2023.
According to teachers Dinh Thi Hoai and Lam Thanh Trung (teaching Natural Science at Vinh Vien High School, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City), the Biology and Chemistry exams will have the same scores as in 2023. In Biology, there are about 70% of questions like the illustrated exam and many strange and difficult questions, with strong classification. Meanwhile, the Chemistry exam has the first 20 questions very easy and it is predicted that about 50% of the exam will get 5 points and about 20% of the exam will get 9-10 points.
According to Civic Education teacher Nguyen Thanh Huong (Tay Thanh High School, Ho Chi Minh City), in general, the exam questions of the Social Science exam this year are somewhat stable and the differentiation is the same as in 2023. For example, in Civic Education, students who know the lesson well can easily get 8 or 9 points. This year's History exam is quite good, even relatively more difficult than last year and has a high level of differentiation. In particular, the first 30 questions are relatively easy, the last 10 questions have a high level of application differentiation and require students to think and reflect a lot. However, a score of 10 in History this year will be rare.
Meanwhile, Ms. Le Thi Nguyet Hong (Literature teacher, Vinh Vien High School) assessed that this year's Literature exam was quite good and easier than previous years. Therefore, the average score for Literature this year will be higher than last year...
The minimum admission score will not increase.
Based on the actual differentiation of the 5 graduation exams in 2024 including the subjects: Math, Literature, Natural Science Exam (Physics - Chemistry - Biology), Social Science Exam (Geography - History - Civic Education), English, admissions experts predict that the minimum admission scores of schools will be equivalent to 2023.
According to Dr. Pham Hong Danh, with the difficulty of the Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology exams, the minimum admission score (score that qualifies for admission) for the A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology) combinations or combinations with at least 2 of these 4 subjects will be the same as in 2023. However, the benchmark score (admission score) for many majors will be at the same level or slightly decreased. The possibility of an increase in benchmark scores for combinations with these subjects will be very difficult.
Meanwhile, according to a representative of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), schools using the C00 combination (Literature, History, Geography) or combinations with the subjects Literature, History, Geography, Civic Education have the floor score and benchmark score at the same level as in 2023. The Literature test is considered easy, but the History test is considered difficult, so the overall benchmark score is also predicted to be equivalent and it is very rare for majors to have higher scores (except in exceptional cases when that major has many candidates registering).
In the two groups of health and education, experts also predict that the minimum admission score will be the same as last year. In 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that the minimum admission score for the education group is 17 points (college level) and 19 points (university level). The highest health group is Medicine and Dentistry: 22.5 points; Pharmacy and Traditional Medicine: 21 points; Nursing, Preventive Medicine, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology... 19 points.
According to the plan to prepare and organize the 2024 high school graduation exam of the Ministry of Education and Training: From July 5 to 12, the exam marking boards of 63 departments of education and training will complete the multiple-choice test marking and send the CD to the Ministry of Education and Training; complete the exam marking, send all the multiple-choice and essay test marking data to the Ministry of Education and Training no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 14; at 8:00 a.m. on July 17, 63 departments of education and training will announce the exam scores. The departments of education and training will complete the graduation assessment no later than July 19 and print and send the graduation exam result certificates to the candidates who have completed the exam by July 23. The departments of education and training will receive appeal applications from July 17 to 26 and complete the appeal marking on August 4.
All candidates participating in the university entrance exam must register their admission wishes for the first round of all methods on the Ministry of Education and Training's system from July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30. During this time, candidates are allowed to adjust their wishes an unlimited number of times.
