(To Quoc) - October 31, 2023 marks a memorable milestone for Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, when it officially becomes the next member of Vietnam to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Music, creating a connection, promoting cultural identity, and the image of the "dream city" to the world.
Music has been around in Da Lat for a long time, and is a part of the unique identity of the "dreamy city". According to statistics, there are about 300 songs written about Da Lat, contributing to the reputation of many musicians such as Hoang Nguyen with the song "Ai len xu hoa dao", Krajan Dick with "Nong nang cao nguyen", Lam Phuong with "Thanh pho buon", or musician Trinh Cong Son with "Loi thien thu goi"...
For Da Lat people, music in the process of development has become a connecting thread between local people and tourists in each theater, music hall, gallery or art stage. There are rich cultural nuances, characteristics with the sound of gongs and the bustling xoang dance throughout the village.
Da Lat periodically organizes events and music projects such as the Gong Festival, Tea Culture Festival... to serve the people and tourists from all over. Many creative communities, art spaces, and attractive performance spaces have also been formed such as Pho Ben Doi, May Lang Thang, Lululola, Stop and Go Art Space, Hey Storm Art Space... gathering many artists working in the art fields, contributing to bringing contemporary art closer to the public, creating conditions for the community to directly participate in the creative process.
Typically, in the past 20 years, Da Lat is the only Flower Festival city in Vietnam when successfully organizing the Flower Festival every two years, including many attractive cultural and musical events of national and international standards, making this festival a national cultural-tourism event, increasingly spreading to the world. For example, the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival in 2024 with the theme "Da Lat Flowers - Symphony of Colors", is held for 1 month with dozens of programs and activities about flowers and unique cultural and artistic culture. Including new music programs such as "Da Lat Harmony - Love story of the Southern Central Highlands", "Dalat Fun Color", "5AM Concert in Da Lat", "Clouds and Water - Symphony to Welcome Spring", "DaLat Spring Concert", "Da Lat chill, four seasons of love" ... to welcome Da Lat, UNESCO's Creative City of Music and the top 5 impressive Festival cities in Asia.

Mr. Chau Le - General Director of "Da Lat Harmony - Tinh Su Nam Tay Nguyen" shared that the program is a musical journey woven from the most delicate emotions of the "land of thousands of flowers". Each performance is staged like a painting, where music, light and space blend together to create memorable moments for everyone attending the Da Lat Flower Festival. And through this program, it can contribute to creating a new cultural and artistic space for the dreamy city and aim to become a regular performance, contributing to the picture of cultural industry development in Lam Dong in general and Da Lat in particular.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, Da Lat becoming a UNESCO Creative City of Music is a recognition for a famous resort destination with a cool mountain climate all year round, beautiful landscapes, unique architecture with peaceful, romantic features rarely seen in Vietnam, attracting many tourists. In particular, music is an indispensable part of the cultural space of the community of more than 20 ethnic groups here.
In particular, when joining UCCN, Da Lat has opportunities to promote creativity and increase the contribution of cultural and creative industries to the local economy; enhance access to and participation in cultural life, and stimulate the creativity of the community. At the same time, it protects, maintains and promotes the diversity and uniqueness of local culture; promotes international cooperation, shares experiences, connects artists and businesses with the international environment; contributes to building brands, and enhances the promotion of the city's image...
In the period from 2024-2027, focus on promoting and introducing Da Lat as a creative music tourism destination, becoming a key connection point for Vietnamese music with the international community through exchanging experiences and practices between cities in UNESCO's music creativity network.
In recent years, Da Lat has also organized many music activities such as the seminar "Musical picture in the new context - Da Lat as a UNESCO City of Music"; coordinated the organization of classical concerts, Vietnam Classical Music Festival...
Currently, Da Lat is also researching and implementing specific policies and mechanisms to encourage creative activities and cultural and artistic performances in the area, especially in the field of music, to develop and maintain the recognized title; encourage organizations, individuals, businesses, people and tourists to have specific activities to participate in response; contribute to creating a premise for local cultural industries to develop, and more strongly consolidate the position of Southeast Asia on the world music map.
