On March 15, 1953, in Ban Bac village, Diem Mac commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, in the heart of Viet Bac - the capital of the resistance war, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 147/SL establishing the State-owned film and photography enterprise, officially establishing the Vietnam Revolutionary Cinema Industry.

After 72 years of development; Vietnamese cinema was born from the Revolution, serving the Party's ideals and closely associated with the People, has continuously grown, made many positive contributions to Vietnamese literature and art and established the position of a progressive and humane cinema in the world. Hundreds of cinema artists sacrificed their lives in the resistance wars for national independence and freedom, setting a shining example of the image of artists - revolutionary soldiers. Some collectives in the industry have been honored by the State with the title of Heroic Unit, many collectives and the Vietnam Cinema Association have received noble medals and awards.

Entering the early 20th century, in the country's transition to a market mechanism and global economic integration, facing fierce competition from other audiovisual media and a massive influx of imported films, Vietnamese cinema encountered difficulties in continuing its development... In order to revive a cinema with a long tradition and many glorious achievements that are extremely proud of in the past and create the premise for new developments, while at the same time motivating filmmakers and awakening the public's interest in cinema, it is urgent to have a macro-level, flexible and feasible cinema development strategy, in which special attention is paid to activities of gathering, developing teams and enhancing the promotion of cinema to the public, in which declaring March 15 - the day President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing the cinema industry, as the annual Cinema Day is a meaningful and practical work.

Promoting the responsibility of socio-political and professional organizations in the field of cinema and television activities for the common cause, the Vietnam Cinema Association has submitted to the Secretariat the Project on Vietnam Cinema Day and the Secretariat in Notice No. 262/TB-TW dated July 24, 2009 allowed March 15 to be Vietnam Cinema Day. This is a special honor for the cinema industry, an occasion to summarize the achievements of the country's cinema, recognizing the contributions of many generations of artists and filmmakers in the resistance war and national construction. This is also an opportunity to encourage and motivate the team of cinema workers nationwide and the community to join hands to revive Vietnamese cinema to continue to develop in the new situation.

Implementing the Secretariat's Directive, every year the Vietnam Cinema Association carries out activities to celebrate Cinema Day such as: Organizing trips to the Doi Co Cinema relic site in Diem Mac commune, Thai Nguyen province and Bung Bien Cinema relic site in Moc Hoa district, Long An province where Southern cinematographers worked during the resistance war against French colonialism; introducing typical cinematographic works of different periods; organizing meetings with generations of cinematographers to recall the heroic tradition of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema... In the locality, the Association's grassroots branches also carry out activities suitable to actual conditions.

The celebration of Vietnam Cinema Day 2025 took place in an atmosphere of the whole country excitedly welcoming the great anniversary of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. On this occasion, in the program of the Cinema Day Celebration, the Association performed a solemn ceremony to remember and pay tribute to veteran artists and cinema activists who later became members of the Vietnam Cinema Association who performed the duties of filming, reporting, projection, and shock troops... at the battlefields: B (B4: Tri Thien Hue, B2: Nam Bo - where the Liberation Army Film Studio was established, B3: Zone 5), C (Laos), K (Cambodia) during the period of fighting against the US to save the country from 1954 to April 30, 1975.

The highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of the "For the Cause of Cinema" Medal by the Vietnam Cinema Association to honor the filmmakers with their brave spirit of self-sacrifice and extraordinary determination who have gloriously fulfilled their duties as artists and soldiers on fierce battlefields. The images and films that artists sometimes risked their lives to record have now become priceless visual heritages of the heroic fight of our army and people for national independence and freedom.

On this occasion, the Association also awarded Commemorative Medals to members of the Executive Committee from the first term (1970) to present and a number of officials who have made positive contributions to the development of the Vietnam Cinema Association./.
