The reading movement in residential areas in the province is growing stronger and stronger. However, along with the diverse bookcases, which are regularly updated, there are also many bookcases in residential areas that are still “poor”, not meeting the needs of research, study and entertainment of the people.
Trung Tien village bookshelf, Hoang Quy commune (Hoang Hoa) with a variety of books, well meets the research and study needs of local people.
With more than 300 books, Trung Tien village cultural house, Hoang Quy commune (Hoang Hoa) is a favorite reading place for children and many local people. Not only does it have spacious facilities, a green - clean - beautiful campus, the bookcases here are also scientifically arranged, with a variety of genres such as: politics - society, law, literature and art, science, history, children... helping people easily search according to their needs and interests. In the open space of a rural area, Trung Tien village cultural house increasingly attracts a large number of people to read books and chat.
Party cell secretary of Trung Tien village Nguyen Xuan Truong said: “Before 2022, due to lack of investment in facilities, the cultural house was degraded and mainly served as a meeting place. Since 2023, the village cultural house has been rebuilt spaciously and fully equipped with reading tables, fans, electricity, water and internet, the reading movement of local people is growing. In order to regularly supplement new books, we have mobilized organizations, individuals, children living far from home to support books... contributing to enriching the bookcase. Up to now, the bookcase in the residential area has a variety of genres, contributing to maximizing the function of the cultural house, both a place for entertainment and education, and popularizing the law for the people, especially the young generation in the area".
According to Mr. Truong, in order to diversify the source of books to serve the needs of the people, in the coming time, the village will continue to organize book donation and support campaigns. At the same time, research, develop plans, propose to the local government to organize book talks, meet with some authors, organize thematic book reading sessions at the cultural house to create novelty, appeal, and attract people's attention to the reading movement.
Along with the achieved results, the development of reading culture in some residential areas in Hoang Hoa district also faces many difficulties and limitations. In particular, the infrastructure has not been invested synchronously, the books are not really diverse and rich in genre. In particular, there are very few publications that mention current issues, politics of the locality, the country and some fields such as culture, education, health... On the other hand, the strong development of the internet also makes the implementation of solutions to diversify book sources in some residential areas not receive due attention.
In Ha Trung district, localities in the area have increasingly deployed and implemented propaganda work well, contributing to the formation and development of the reading movement in residential areas. In order to make the source of books increasingly rich and diverse, each year the district library allocates a portion of its budget to supplement new sources of books. Along with that, the district Center for Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism has mobilized socialized sources to contribute books from readers; coordinated with the Provincial Library and book companies to rotate books in many different fields, meeting the reading needs of local people. Up to now, 143/143 villages and sub-areas in the district have legal bookcases, with diverse sources of books, basically meeting the research, learning and entertainment needs of people in areas such as: livestock breeding techniques, cultivation, economic development, Party guidelines and policies, State policies and laws, etc.
Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Ha Trung district, Phan Thi Lan, said: “Recognizing the position and importance of reading culture in life, Ha Trung district has been effectively implementing solutions to develop reading culture in the community. Up to now, 100% of residential areas have legal bookcases, with at least 50 books/bookcase. In recent years, the district has paid attention to developing diverse book sources for villages and sub-regions, regularly adding new ones; at the same time, encouraging the development of private libraries, clan bookcases, family bookcases, and study promotion bookcases. Along with that, the criteria for communes to establish book clubs or groups of book lovers in villages have been added to the criteria for considering recognition of communes meeting advanced or model NTM standards. In the coming time, the district will guide localities to exchange books and newspapers, so that bookcases in residential areas are diverse, rich and closer to the majority of people”.
It can be said that residential bookcases with diverse sources of books are an important basis for arousing and spreading the habit of reading books and newspapers among people. This is also the place where people in rural and mountainous areas can most easily access. Therefore, with the attention of all levels and sectors, each locality needs to proactively and effectively implement solutions to supplement new sources of books, promote the effectiveness of bookcases in residential areas, contribute to improving the cultural life of the grassroots and building a lifelong learning society.
