Focus on food safety and hygiene
Tan Dinh Psychiatric Nursing Center was established nearly 20 years ago in Tan Dinh Commune, Bac Tan Uyen District, Binh Duong Province and officially came into operation in 2006. Currently, the Center has 4 specialized departments, 8 medical departments and a representative office at 153 Xo Viet Nghe Tinh (Ward 17, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City). The total number of staff and workers is 197 people, managing and caring for 1,436 mental patients.
According to Mr. Lu Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of Tan Dinh Mental Health Nursing Center, the number of patients is quite large, along with the relatively difficult management and care of mentally ill patients, requiring great responsibility and dedication from officials and employees. In order to improve morale, overcome difficulties and effectively carry out the care and treatment of patients, the Center has developed a plan of targets, proposed tasks and specific solutions for implementation.

The subjects of management are mental patients, who cannot control their behavior, leading to difficulties in controlling their eating and drinking, so food safety and hygiene is of particular concern. The kitchen area is equipped with a cold storage for food preservation and a sample cabinet. The kitchen staff and catering staff are trained, educated, and disseminated about food safety and hygiene regulations and laws, ensuring that they are equipped with sufficient knowledge to properly implement the principles of food processing, preventing cases of poisoning.
In particular, the kitchen of Tan Dinh Mental Health Center has been granted a certificate of food hygiene and safety. In addition, the management, reception and use of charity food is also regularly inspected by the Center's Board of Directors. The electrical and gas systems in the kitchen area are guaranteed to be safe to avoid explosions.
The center is also strictly implementing the one-way kitchen process, the input food source is closely monitored by the specialized department, and samples are kept for 24 hours according to regulations. The nutritional regimen is fully disclosed on the information board, ensuring adequate nutrition for each meal.
Besides focusing on food safety and hygiene, the Center regularly organizes sports competitions to help patients improve their health.
At the same time, the Center also implemented a model of increasing crop production to supplement the source of clean, self-sufficient food for the kitchen, while supporting the treatment of patients through occupational therapy.
In 2022, the Center renovated 2 plots of land with an area of 3,000 m2, raised beds and planted various types of green vegetables, and harvested 6,998 kg of vegetables. Through this activity, the Center's kitchen cooked 69 more fresh meals, 86 meals of lemonade, 32 times of tofu, 45 times of fruit, 32 times of soy milk, and cooked 3 dishes/meal 58 times.
In February 2023 alone, the kitchen cooked 28 fresh meals. To achieve the goal of improving the health of patients, the Center launched a competition movement to “improve responsibility in supporting the health of patients with physical weakness” and developed a plan to improve the health of 137 patients.
Through this, the patient was given supplements, Vitamin 3B injections, more milk and an increased diet. This limited the patient's agitation and epilepsy, helped stabilize his mind, return to normal activities and manage his general medical condition well.
The competition results were outstanding with 131 patients in good health, 82 patients gaining weight and achieving good health. The Center will continue to improve the health of the remaining patients according to plan.
The Center has implemented many practical methods to protect the environment such as launching the projects "Green Sunday", "Volunteer Saturday", "Socialist Labor Day"...
Proactively build green, clean and beautiful space
Mr. Lu Nguyen Minh Tuan said that according to Plan No. 19052/KH-SLDTBXH dated June 1, 2022 of the Department on environmental protection, from 2022, Tan Dinh Mental Nursing Center has launched the movement "For a green, clean, beautiful office" with the aim of propagating and educating to raise awareness of civil servants in environmental protection, preventing plastic waste... combined with general cleaning activities, planting trees and developing green areas, handling polluted areas, implementing green works.
Patients are cared for and nursed in a clean, airy environment.
Responding to the emulation movement, departments and organizations at the Center have implemented many practical methods to protect the environment such as launching the projects "Green Sunday", "Volunteer Saturday", "Socialist Labor Day", cleaning the landscape of the administrative area, dredging sewers, pruning tree branches to prevent falling, collecting and treating garbage around departments, rooms, etc.
Up to now, the Center has launched 5 campaigns with the participation of 130 officials. In addition, in 2022, the Center also launched 5 emulation campaigns on the occasion of major holidays, notably the emulation movement to achieve achievements to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and the 136th anniversary of International Labor Day on May 1 with the theme "Strengthening landscape renovation to create a green, clean and beautiful campus".
Through the above activities, it has created conditions for patients to walk, relax, and exercise in a green space, making them feel comfortable and optimistic, supporting the treatment process well.
In particular, during the 2023 Lunar New Year, departments and faculties organized a competition to decorate the unit's landscape. Two months before Tet, departments also proactively nurtured, planted and cared for Tet flowers such as sunflowers, cockscombs, dahlias, and toadstools. In addition to bringing a joyful atmosphere to staff and patients, the activity helped save more money to buy flowers for Tet decoration.
The center organizes cleaning and tree planting around the campus.
“With the theme of 2023 being 'Solidarity - Creativity - Responsibility - Honesty - Discipline', the staff of Tan Dinh Mental Nursing Center are unanimous in all activities, enhancing responsibility and dedication to work to complete assigned tasks well.
At the same time, we will strengthen environmental protection, use recycled products to decorate flower pots, beautify the landscape and surrounding area of the unit," Mr. Lu Nguyen Minh Tuan shared.
To better care for patients, in addition to the budget of Ho Chi Minh City, many philanthropists also come to support necessities every year. Currently, the center hires a unit specializing in processing meals for patients, increasing on-site production to improve the quality of meals.
