Da Dong Island is located in the East-West direction, 253 nautical miles from Cam Ranh peninsula. The island has a coral reef area of about 65km², about 14km long, and about 3.8km wide. Da Dong has a nearly closed lake, the west side of the island has a channel into the lake, very convenient for transferring goods from ships to the island. The northern coral belt is higher than the southern belt, when the tide drops to 0.4m, this belt emerges. Due to its location near the equator, there are many hot sunny days (300 days/year).

On the island, day and night there are loyal children firmly holding guns to protect the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Along with the islands of the Truong Sa archipelago, Da Dong island is the outer shield protecting the eastern flank of the South Central provinces. Located in the Truong Sa archipelago, Da Dong island has the task of coordinating with the islands in the archipelago and Truong Sa archipelago to form a continuous battle formation, protecting the sea, islands and mainland. Around the island, there are many precious fish species such as: pomfret, mackerel, tuna, grouper and many other seafood species. Therefore, in the calm season, many boats from coastal localities of our country, including Binh Thuan, come to fish, exploit and process seafood.

With the attention of the Party and the State, Da Dong Island has built 3 solid houses and 1 spacious, clean, and sturdy rescue house. On the island, there is also a wind and solar energy system, contributing to improving the living, studying, and working life of officers and soldiers. When night falls, seen from afar, Da Dong Island cluster is like a shimmering lighthouse, full of vitality in the middle of the vast ocean, connecting millions of hearts of Vietnamese people towards Truong Sa - the sacred land of the Fatherland in the middle of the ocean.

Beautify the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers

Now, the material and spiritual life of officers and soldiers on Da Dong island has gradually improved. The satellite signal transmitting station of Vietnam Television has helped officers and soldiers on the island to promptly update domestic and international information. On the island points, there are bookcases and newspapers with nearly 1,000 books and over 20 newspapers of all kinds, a law bookcase... thereby raising awareness, belief, and responsibility for the cause of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. On Da Dong island, the source of fresh water for daily life is exploited from rainwater and transported from the mainland.

In recent years, thanks to the tank system, the island has proactively ensured 100% of its domestic water needs. To have land to grow vegetables, officers and soldiers on Da Dong island have to transport small bags of soil from the mainland. Although fresh water is scarce, thanks to measures to use fresh water economically, scientifically and appropriately in daily life, officers and soldiers on Da Dong island have been able to grow many types of vegetables to meet daily needs and improve the lives of soldiers.

In addition to performing training and combat readiness tasks, officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island are also active and proactive in participating in rescue, helping fishermen, and implementing well the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea". Every year, the island examines and provides free medicine to dozens of fishermen, and presents national flags to fishing boats. The simple but noble deeds of officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island have contributed to beautifying the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - the image of Navy soldiers" in the hearts of the people. During the process of building, fighting and growing up, generations of officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island have achieved outstanding results and have been regularly awarded the title "Determined to Win Unit" by the Navy Command.

According to the Commander of Da Dong Island, currently, the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands is posing higher and more urgent requirements. Thoroughly grasping the resolutions and directives of the Party, promoting the tradition of the heroic Truong Sa delegation, the officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island will continue to closely follow the key political tasks, effectively carry out breakthroughs to excellently complete the assigned tasks. Promote studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh in conjunction with implementing the campaign "Promoting tradition, dedicating talent, worthy of the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers - Navy soldiers" in the new period, building Da Dong Island "Strong in defense, good in lifestyle, beautiful in landscape and environment, exemplary in military-civilian solidarity", worthy of the trust and love of the army and people of the whole country.
