The spring incense offering ceremony is held on the 9th of January every year at Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
This is a traditional cultural activity within the series of Tet activities celebrating the Party and the Spring of Giap Thin 2024 taking place from December 23 to present, including many activities of displaying, exhibiting, educating about heritage and traditional culture recreated at Thang Long Imperial Citadel such as the ceremony of worshiping Ong Cong Ong Tao, the ceremony of raising and lowering the Neu tree and many other unique cultural activities.
Dragon dance
The spring incense offering program was solemnly organized with many traditional rituals such as procession, incense offering, sacrifice and many folk cultural activities with the participation of the Trieu Khuc village Dragon Team (Tan Trieu - Thanh Tri); Festival Drum Team (Dong Anh district); Male Te Team (Hoang Mai district); Female incense offering team of Dinh, So Thuong Temple (Yen So - Hoang Mai) and members of the branches of the Thang Long - Hanoi Cultural Heritage Association.
The program opened with a Dragon Dance, recreating the image of the descendants of the Dragon and Fairy, with the wish for favorable weather, prosperity, national peace and security, promoting the martial spirit and the tradition of remembering the source of the nation. Next was the performance of the Thang Long Festival Drum, expressing the heroic spirit of Thang Long - Hanoi, a thousand years of culture. The procession with the participation of many members gathered at Doan Mon Square and entered the Dragon Courtyard of Kinh Thien Palace according to traditional rituals.
On this occasion, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site also arranged many spring flower spaces and miniature landscapes to serve visitors.
The incense offering ceremony to open the spring is an annual ritual held with the meaning of turning to the ancestors' roots, showing gratitude to the merits of the previous emperors, wise kings, and talented people who have contributed to the country, while honoring the traditional values of Thang Long - Hanoi.
It is known that during the 7 days of the Lunar New Year, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site welcomed 60,000 visitors.
Thang Long Imperial Citadel is expected to welcome 1 million visitors in 2024 and continue to be the leading attractive heritage destination of Hanoi Capital for domestic and foreign tourists.
