'Netizens' in 2024 care more about music than food

According to the report Looking back at hot trends on social networks in 2024 recently published by YouNet Media, a year is gradually coming to an end, painting a brilliant picture with countless impressive trends: from "stormy" entertainment programs to passionate music festivals, movies that make us proud of Vietnamese cinema, or new phrases that have not yet had a definition spreading across social networks.

The SocialTrend Reply 2024 report shows that there are up to 2,740 hot topics/hot trends that have exploded, attracting more than 235.7 million discussions and more than 2.67 billion interactions from social network users.

Compared to 2023, the total volume of discussions increased by 13% although the number of hot topics decreased slightly by 9%, showing that the influence of this year's hot trends has increased significantly.

Top 6 fields with the most hot trends on social networks in 2024.

If the topic of Food and Drink is one of the hottest trends on social networks in 2023 with 554 hot trends, 2024 will witness a shift when Music hot trends are strongly responded to by the online community.

The Music Festival trend has been bustling since the end of 2023 and will explode in 2024. With 610 hot trends, accounting for 22.3% of the total number of hot topics, Music has surpassed Food and Drink, taking the top 2 position in the fields with the most hot trends on social networks in 2024, marking a strong shift in the interests of social network users.

In addition to Music, Entertainment Programs have also emerged as a new "force", attracting attention and a huge amount of discussion from users. The program "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" at the end of 2023 opened an "arena". By 2024, the pair of arch-rivals: Show "Anh trai say hi" and Show "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" have continuously occupied the spotlight on social networks.

Although the SocialTrend Ranking - Entertainment Programs category was only launched in October 2024 and only had about 31 hot trending topics throughout the year, this category quickly accounted for 13.5% of the total discussion volume on all social networks in 2024. Meanwhile, Music and Movies only accounted for 8% and 8.7% of the discussion volume, respectively.

The ranking also announced the top 10 hottest social media topics that generated more than 945.4 million interactions and 45.3 million discussions.

Besides the popular trends in the fields of Music, Film and Entertainment, weather news such as Typhoon Yagi and floods in the North also attracted deep attention from the online community in the past year.

Notably, 5/10 topics in the top 10 list are entertainment shows, accounting for more than 56.7% of the total discussion volume of the top 10. The most prominent is the hot show Anh trai say hi, which not only spread strongly thanks to the heat from 30 anh trai but also thanks to the eye-catching performances, attracting more than 12.7 million discussions and firmly holding the top 1 position.

Notably, all the leading hot trends on social media last year were “Vietnamese products”, from entertainment shows to music videos, movies and TV series. This further affirms the increasingly rising position of the country’s entertainment industry in the hearts of Vietnamese audiences.
