Dak Lak recommends not to develop durian massively

On July 30, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province informed that the unit has just issued a notice to relevant agencies and units to manage the purchase and export of durian in the 2024 crop.

Authorities and localities need to closely coordinate with the Regional Plant Quarantine Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the General Department of Customs, etc. to grasp the situation of durian exports to the Chinese market.

From there, the authorities promptly detected, coordinated to verify, clarify, and strictly handled subjects with acts of "commercial fraud", "origin" and "geographical indications" as well as units using durian growing area codes and durian packing facility codes for export that do not comply with regulations...

In addition, businesses need to publicize durian growing area codes and packaging codes approved by the General Administration of Customs of China. Forming raw material areas associated with processing enterprises, ensuring a closed loop, shortening the time in export activities.

Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee requested relevant units to grasp the situation of durian development in the country and region... to forecast, advise and propagate people not to develop durian massively. That will lead to the risk of supply exceeding demand, disrupting the planning of key crops in the province.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Pham Van Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province - said that instead of "hot" development, increasing the area and output of durian, farmers should focus on improving the quality of the crop.

Currently, the province has identified core areas for durian cultivation in 7 districts and towns. In areas outside the planning, people should not develop this agricultural product.

Because durian trees are very sensitive to weather and require large investment costs, even a small incident can easily lead to losses. People must pay special attention to fertilizer and pesticide residues according to the requirements of the import market. The purpose of this is to avoid affecting the reputation of local agricultural products.
