Da Lat rectifies 'overcharging' during Flower Festival

Da Lat City requires accommodation and service establishments not to increase prices and improve tourism quality during the Da Lat Flower Festival.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival with the theme "Da Lat Flowers - Symphony of Colors" will take place from December 5 to 31.

Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee Dang Quang Tu said that he has worked with hotels to stabilize room rates during the festival. To stop the situation of increasing room rates and soliciting customers like in previous festivals, the city has directed regular monitoring and handling of room rate increases and negative behaviors that affect the image of tourism. Da Lat has also strengthened security and safety for tourists during this time.

Currently, Da Lat has more than 23,400 rooms, serving an average of 72,000 visitors per day. "The city is capable of meeting the accommodation needs of tourists, without any room shortages," said Mr. Tu.

To minimize traffic jams and parking overload, the Organizing Committee has planned additional parking lots outside the center, taking advantage of parking lots of administrative agencies, regulating traffic at congested points with the expectation of bringing good experiences to visitors during this year's Festival.

According to the Organizing Committee, the events of this year’s Da Lat Flower Festival emphasize the international element, with the participation of cultural and artistic communities in many countries and Da Lat’s tourism partner, Korea. In addition, the festival spreads the value of the local flower production industry and recognizes the efforts of Da Lat City in joining the UNESCO global creative network in the field of music.

Da Lat is recognized as the city in the first music creation network of Vietnam. The 2024 Flower Festival is expected to have about 10 music programs and response activities.

Some of the outstanding activities in Bao Loc City and Da Lat on this occasion include the program of the city of tea fragrance - silk color; the city of wine - tea - coffee and specialties of Da Lat - Lam Dong; the Da Lat vegetable and flower market; the Da Lat - Chuncheon (Korea) international cultural and artistic exchange; the flower and heritage street carnival (flower car parade, flower fashion, street art).

The Da Lat Flower Festival is held every two years in December. In addition to enjoying the flower spaces of the festival, visitors to Da Lat can also see wild sunflowers, cherry blossoms, and pink grass in Langbiang and the surrounding areas.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, said that the Da Lat Flower Festival contributes to the development of the local socio-economy, including flower growing and tourism. The festival also spreads the culture of the southern Central Highlands to tourists.

"The 2024 Da Lat Flower Festival is expected to welcome 2 million tourists, including 60,000 international visitors, with expected revenue of VND3,600 billion," said Mr. Kien.
