Contrasting form of CAHN Club
The 0-0 draw with Ha Tinh FC in round 12 of the V-League caused CAHN FC to miss the opportunity to narrow the gap with the top group. The gap between coach Alexandre Polking and his team and the top 3 is now 5 points. In the context that The Cong Viettel is still stable, while Hanoi and Nam Dinh are both breaking out again, CAHN FC needs to regain the winning streak if they do not want to be left behind.
It is worth mentioning that in the draw with Ha Tinh, CAHN Club, despite having many good players in the squad, was continuously "bombarded" by the opponent's goal. The quality of the match of Mr. Polking's students was assessed as low, with a disjointed style of play, lacking highlights and needing luck to leave the field with 1 point. In round 11, CAHN Club was also held to a 1-1 draw by the second-to-last team SLNA at Hang Day Stadium.
CAHN Club plays well in international tournaments, but declines in V-League
After 11 matches, CAHN Club has only won 4, drawn 4 and lost 3. The winning rate of the former champion team in V-League this season is only 36.3%, much lower than the championship season (55%). Despite having many good players in the attack such as Leo Artur, Alan Grafite, Dinh Bac, Quang Hai, Van Duc..., CAHN Club has only scored 14 goals after 11 matches, an average of 1.27 goals/match (ranked 6th in V-League).
All of the above parameters are in contrast to the performance in the ASEAN Club Championship (Southeast Asian Championship), where CAHN Club is "making waves". In the tournament considered as the C1 Cup of Southeast Asian clubs, Coach Polking and his students won all 5 group stage matches against Buriram United (2-1), Lion City Sailors (5-0), Kaya FC (2-1), Kuala Lumpur FC (3-2) and Borneo Samarinda (3-2). CAHN defeated the champions of Thailand and Singapore to convincingly take the top spot in the group, becoming the only team at the moment in the C1 Cup of Southeast Asia to maintain an all-win record.
Ironically, although CAHN Club has only played 5 matches in the ASEAN Club Championship (less than half of the V-League), it has won more than the V-League (5 compared to 4). The winning rate and average number of goals per match of CAHN Club when entering the Southeast Asian tournament are both superior to the domestic tournament. If they maintain their current form, it will not be difficult for the former V-League champion to advance to the final, because the opponent PSM Makassar (Indonesia) cannot compare to CAHN Club in terms of squad quality and experience.
However, CAHN Club needs to bring its form in the Southeast Asian tournament back to the V-League, if it does not want its opponents to increase the gap in points. In round 13 of the V-League, Quang Hai and his teammates will face Quang Nam, at 7:15 p.m. on February 15 at Hang Day Stadium.
The remaining Vietnamese representative participating in the Southeast Asian Cup C1, Thanh Hoa FC, had a contrasting performance. The Thanh team played well in the V-League with 22 points after 11 rounds (2 points behind the top team but played 2 fewer matches), but played poorly in the Southeast Asian tournament when they only won 1 out of 5 matches and ranked 5th out of 6 teams in Group A.
