Speaking here, Prof. Dr. Dao Manh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Training Association, gave an overview of the situation of Vietnam tourism with the issue of training and using tourism human resources in the current period.
According to him, current tourism training facilities according to ownership types include: Public and non-public, domestic investment and foreign-invested facilities; formal and informal training organization forms, short-term and long-term systems.
With the number of training programs including: 55 majors, 123 majors, tourism and tourism-related occupations, every year tourism training institutions graduate about 20,000 students out of about 22,000 recruited students.
Of which, there are about 1,800 university and college students, 2,100 tourism vocational college students, about 18,200 intermediate students, in addition to about 5,000 elementary and vocational training under 3 months.
However, the issue of human resource development, especially high-quality human resources, is a challenge for Vietnamese tourism in the face of the requirements of the new situation.
Through a survey of current tourism training facilities in our country, it shows that some issues need attention: the training program is not unified, the training code is not updated, does not really meet the needs of society, and has not thoroughly applied vocational skills standards in building training programs.
Mr. Dao Manh Hung said that most training facilities have not yet set output standards. In addition, teaching methods at many tourism schools are still heavy on theory, neglecting or avoiding practice while tourism vocational training needs to prioritize practice at a high rate.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Duong Duc Thang, Head of the Faculty of Tourism (East Asia University of Technology), traditional training methods are no longer suitable for the increasingly high standards and demands of the industry.
He said: “Current tourism human resources must not only be fluent in foreign languages but also have to use technology well and have the skills to build products according to high quality standards.
Meanwhile, many students trained in tourism departments cannot compete with students who study foreign languages when they graduate due to poor communication skills with foreigners. This is a sad reality.
Pointing out training trends in Vietnam, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long, Head of the Faculty of Tourism (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also said that currently, there are no standards or criteria for international standard training. However, schools can comply with international training accreditation regulations with standards such as the network of universities in Asia and Europe.
At the workshop, experts also discussed the current cooperation activities in training international standard tourism human resources, finding solutions to promote digital transformation in tourism vocational training schools in Vietnam, and at the same time said that there should be separate standards in training international standard human resources so that training institutions can orient to build appropriate training methods.
Up to now, the country has 195 tourism training establishments including: 65 universities with tourism faculties; 55 colleges (10 colleges specializing in tourism training, of which 8 are under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism); 71 secondary schools and 4 vocational training centers. There are two training facilities under the enterprise: Imperial International Hotel and Tourism Vocational College, which trains according to the Hotel college model, and Saigontourist College of Tourism and Hotel of Saigon Tourist Corporation. The country has about 2,000 tourism teachers, lecturers and managers, training service staff at all levels (tourism teachers and lecturers account for about 73%, management staff, training service staff account for about 27%) and 2,579 tourism trainers (with training certificates from the Vietnam Tourism Certification Council). |
