Newsis (South Korea) confirmed that the Lao Football Federation (LFF) appointed Mr. Jong Song-chon as the head coach of the national women's team on March 24. The LFF will announce this information after the men's team's match with Vietnam in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

“I am very honored to be in charge of the Laos women's team. I will do my best for the development of the country's women's football and build the Laos women's team into a highly competitive team," said coach Jong Song-chon.

With this appointment by the LFF, both the Lao men's and women's football teams are now led by Korean coaches. Previously, Mr. Ha Hyeok-jun led the Lao men's team from the second half of 2024 and helped the team make significant progress in the regional arena, with 3 draws with goals against stronger opponents such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

With an impressive CV, Coach Jong Song-chon is also expected to help Lao women's football make similar progress. Coach Jong was born in 1972, led the Korean U20 women's teams to 3 Youth World Cups, led the Hanoi I women's club and was the head coach of the Park Hang-seo Academy.

Mr. Jong was also a rival of famous strategist Shin Tae-yong, during his time working at K-League 1.

Coach Jong is the first Korean strategist and the second foreign coach to lead the Lao women's team in history. Before Jong, the Lao women's team was led by Japanese coach Nayuha Toyoda for about a year and a half. Before that, the Lao women's team was only led by domestic coaches.
