Announcement of the decision to establish Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone, scale of 20,000 hectares

This afternoon (January 16), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha presented the decision to establish the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone to Hai Phong City.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that the coastal economic zone in the south of Hai Phong represents the will, aspiration and vision that marks a new era, a stage of development to new heights of Hai Phong.

To successfully build the economic zone, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Hai Phong promote its economic, political and cultural advantages. Along with that, it is necessary to develop multi-purpose infrastructure, complementing each other between transport infrastructure and energy infrastructure, water supply, drainage and telecommunications.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, said that the city will develop a specific plan to implement the construction of the economic zone.

Reporting on the establishment of the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong, Mr. Le Trung Kien, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, affirmed: This is an important event marking a historical turning point in the development process of Hai Phong City, opening up a development space and a new growth driver.

The Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone, with an area of ​​about 20,000 hectares, is oriented to be a multi-industry, international economic zone, with development pillars being high-tech industry, modern logistics services, smart urban areas, eco-tourism, and a pilot free trade zone.

The Southern Hai Phong coastal economic zone is expected to develop with more than 3,000 hectares of seaport with a length of 12km, more than 4,000 hectares of industrial land, 1,800 hectares of urban land and over 1,000 hectares of free trade zone.

It is expected that the total investment by 2030 will be about 8 billion USD; by 2040, it will attract about 40 billion USD in investment, import and export will reach over 70 billion USD, attract 400,000 workers, and create accommodation for over 500,000 people.

This is not only a new economic growth driver but also the basis for Hai Phong to affirm its position as a maritime economic center, an international logistics service center, an important growth pole of the region and the whole country.

By 2030, the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong will become the main driving force of the Hai Phong City economy, equivalent to 80% of the capacity of the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone. This economic zone will play a particularly important role in connecting with neighboring economic zones, forming a chain of coastal economic zones, serving as the driving force for the development of the whole region.

Also on the afternoon of January 16, the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee met with businesses and international guests in the Spring of At Ty 2025.

Up to now, the whole city has more than 23,000 operating enterprises, of which more than 3,300 are newly established enterprises, an increase of 5.3% compared to last year. Some enterprises are in the TOP 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam such as: Hai Phong Port, Tien Phong Plastic, Vinfast, Viet Phat, Dinh Vu Port, LG Company, Hoang Huy Group, ...

Enterprises have made a large contribution to the city's domestic revenue, reaching 49,668 billion VND, accounting for 99.2% of domestic revenue. Of which, the non-state enterprise sector contributed 8,107 billion VND, accounting for 16.1% of total revenue. The FDI enterprise sector contributed 5,861 billion VND, accounting for 11.65% of total revenue. The central and local state-owned enterprises in the area contributed 2,628 billion VND, accounting for 5.25% of total revenue. There were 9 enterprises paying taxes from 500 billion VND to more than 5,000 billion VND.
