Six years after his most recent visit to Vietnam, Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's state visit to Vietnam from December 12-13 will certainly consolidate mutual political trust between the two countries and promote mutually beneficial cooperation, Xinhua News Agency wrote. The visit will also strengthen the relationship between the two peoples, creating strong momentum to open a new stage in bilateral relations at a higher starting point. Over the years, both countries have had frequent high-level exchanges and made breakthroughs in substantive cooperation, while the relationship between the two countries has increasingly received widespread support from the people. The special relationship of "both comrades and brothers" between the two countries has brought benefits to the people of both countries, promoting peace and development in the region and the world. The friendship has been clearly demonstrated in each country's foreign policy, considering bilateral relations as a top priority. The leaders of the two sides have also established solid political trust and deep comradeship to chart a roadmap for the future development of bilateral relations and put forward important strategic directions. Last October, President Xi Jinping met with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong during his visit to China to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Exactly one year earlier, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong became the first foreign leader to visit China after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and was awarded the Friendship Medal of the People's Republic of China by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping. The two leaders exchanged visits in 2017, with Xi Jinping's state visit to Vietnam being his first overseas trip after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Cooperation between the two countries has reached new heights as they celebrate the 15th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership this year. China has remained Vietnam's largest trading partner for many years, while Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN.
